Apple’s Ambitious Leap into Health Technology
This week’s Bloomberg Power On newsletter, curated by Mark Gurman, unveils exciting developments regarding Apple’s future in health tech. Gurman posits that Apple is aiming to “replicate”your physician through an advanced AI agent, capable of monitoring personal health data to provide customized recommendations.
Introducing Project Mulberry: A New Era for Apple’s Health App
At the heart of this initiative is Apple’s alleged Project Mulberry, which includes a major overhaul of the Health app paired with an intelligent AI agent. This effort aligns with Tim Cook’s vision of establishing a “medical lab on your wrist, ”emphasizing Apple’s critical role in advancing healthcare.
Harnessing Data for Personalized Health Insights
The enhanced Health app will aggregate user data from various Apple devices—such as iPhones, Apple Watches, and AirPods—to feed into the AI agent. This integration will empower users by delivering tailored health insights based on individual health profiles.
Expert Collaboration to Enrich User Experience
Currently, physicians employed by Apple are training this AI agent. Furthermore, the company is on the lookout for external specialists, including renowned sleep experts, nutritionists, physical therapists, and cardiologists, to produce informative video content within the revamped Health app. This content aims to provide users with clarity on their health status and pertinent risks.
Anticipated Launch and Features
Assuming all goes as planned, the AI agent and the new health app are expected to debut with iOS 19.4, projected for release in spring or summer of next year.
“Apple is opening up a facility near Oakland, California, that will let the physicians shoot their video content for the app. It’s also seeking to find a major doctor personality to serve as a host of sorts for the new service, which some within Apple have tentatively dubbed ‘Health+’.
Enhanced Food Tracking and Fitness Monitoring
The redesigned Health app will put a greater emphasis on food tracking capabilities, alongside the AI agent’s nutrition advice. Apple is also exploring the potential of utilizing the iPhone’s rear camera to monitor workout sessions, offering users feedback for improving their exercise techniques—possibly integrating this feature into the Apple Fitness+ platform.
