Apple Watch Ultra 3 Released: Features Largest Display, Slimmer Bezels, 5G Connectivity, Satellite Messaging, and Enhanced Health Tracking

Apple has recently concluded its highly anticipated “Awe-Dropping”event, showcasing a range of hardware enhancements that truly live up to the hype. While the spotlight was primarily on the iPhone 17 series, our attention was captivated by the unveiling of the new Apple Watch Ultra 3. This model has been eagerly awaited since the release of the Ultra 2 in 2023, and the latest version features significant improvements, both internally and externally, making it a promising upgrade for users.

Apple Watch Ultra 3: Enhanced Display and Connectivity Features

In an effort to justify the two-year gap since its last update, Apple has concentrated on enhancing the display of the Apple Watch Ultra 3. The new model sports a resolution of 422 x 514, surpassing the Ultra 2’s 410 x 502 resolution, resulting in a notably improved visual experience. While the overall case size remains at 49mm, the company has successfully minimized the bezels, thereby increasing the screen real estate.

Featuring a diagonal display of 1.98 inches, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 offers the largest screen yet. This expansive display not only facilitates exercise tracking but also provides a superior interface for notifications and map navigation. Thanks to the incorporation of LTPO3 OLED technology, users can expect advancements in refresh rates, brightness, and overall energy efficiency, with peak brightness reaching an impressive 4, 000 nits. A wide-angle OLED panel enhances visibility by allowing the watch to be 40 percent brighter even when viewed from the side, enabling easy access to information without adjusting wrist angles.

Performance is a priority in Apple’s hardware launches, and the Apple Watch Ultra 3 features the new S11 chip. This innovative chipset not only boosts energy efficiency but also presents a compact architecture that extends battery life and provides ample space for other components, culminating in improved performance and reduced lag. Notably, this model represents a pivotal transition, as it supports 5G connectivity via RedCap, marking Apple’s shift towards MediaTek modems rather than its traditional reliance on Qualcomm.

Another standout feature of the Apple Watch Ultra 3 is its satellite messaging capability, positioning it as a potentially attractive option for users who frequently venture off the grid. While iPhones offer the Emergency SOS feature, extending this functionality to the smartwatch significantly appeals to outdoor enthusiasts who might find this feature invaluable during their adventures.

Design-wise, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 appears to draw inspiration from the Apple Watch Series 10, featuring a newly designed metal back casing that integrates an antenna and a larger charging coil. This upgrade reduces charging times and facilitates faster charging speeds. Furthermore, health monitoring capabilities are significantly enhanced with the introduction of blood pressure trend detection. Although it won’t provide medical-grade measurements, it allows users to identify patterns that could signal hypertension over time.

With its larger display, rapid charging, enhanced connectivity, and advanced health tracking features, the Apple Watch Ultra 3 presents a compelling upgrade for existing Ultra 2 users and is arguably the most sophisticated smartwatch Apple has released to date.
