Samsung’s Strategic Shift Following Galaxy S25 Edge Sales

The disappointing sales performance of the Galaxy S25 Edge has initiated a significant shift in Samsung’s product strategy. As a result, the company has halted development on the Galaxy S26 Edge and postponed the launch of two out of its three flagship models. Reports indicate that mass production of the premium Galaxy S26 Ultra is set to commence in December, a strategic move to utilize the available production capacity effectively.

Upcoming Models and Production Plans

According to a report by The Elec, Samsung has altered its production plans following the removal of the Galaxy S26 Edge from its lineup. Currently, only the OLED display for the Galaxy S26 Ultra has received production approval, with the base Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Plus still awaiting final approvals, which are now expected in December.

Initially, Samsung had aimed to mass-produce all three models before year-end; however, unexpected challenges forced a reevaluation. Historically, the Galaxy S Ultra models have outperformed their counterparts thanks to exclusive features, distinctive designs, and the inclusion of the S Pen, which have made them more appealing to consumers. An unnamed industry source commented on the situation:

“From Samsung Electronics’ perspective, they have to consider the limitations of their finished product production capacity. They probably decided that it would be efficient to secure quantity by starting with the Ultra model, which has completed development and accounts for more than half of total sales.”

Looking Ahead: Galaxy S26 and S26 Plus Launch Timeline

The Galaxy S26 and Galaxy S26 Plus are slated to begin mass production in January. If Samsung proceeds with its Galaxy Unpacked event in February, consumers can expect pre-orders to begin shortly after. Prioritizing the Galaxy S26 Ultra seems prudent, given its track record of driving sales for the series.

Nevertheless, there are certain features, such as battery enhancements, that could be improved to boost sales further. Consumers are hopeful that Samsung will transition to advanced technologies, including silicon carbon, in future iterations.
