Android 15 Update Enables App-Switching During Recording or Casting

The rollout of Android 15 introduces a variety of exciting enhancements for compatible smartphones. Currently, VIVO stands out as the sole manufacturer that has successfully launched the stable Android 15 update for its flagship devices, while both Google and Samsung have yet to release this stable version for their own smartphones.

Among the many innovative features of Android 15, the private screen recording capability is particularly noteworthy. This new functionality allows users to record a single application rather than capturing or streaming the entire screen, thereby protecting sensitive data like passwords and personal photos from being inadvertently shared.

However, if you want to switch the app you are sharing during a session, you must stop the ongoing casting or recording and initiate a new session. This interrupts the fluidity of sharing your device’s screen. Fortunately, Google is developing an upgrade that would allow users to change apps without halting the recording or casting processes.

Mishaal Rahman from Android Authority has reported that a new entry in the Android 15 source code activates a “task switcher feature for partial screen sharing.”This term refers to the ability to record and cast a single app. Below are the relevant strings pertaining to this upcoming task switcher feature:

Once this feature flag is active, a new notification will appear when you record or cast an app and decide to switch to another. Originating from the SystemUI app, the notification indicates, “Sharing pauses when you switch apps.”

The notification includes two interactive buttons: “Share this app instead”and “Switch back.”Choosing “Switch back”will return you to the original app that was being recorded or cast, whereas selecting “Share this app instead”allows you to share the different app you accessed during the session. Currently, however, the “Share this app instead”button is non-functional as the feature is still under development.

It remains uncertain whether this enhancement will be included in the final stable version of Android 15. Additionally, there have been indications that Android 15 might soon incorporate a feature for syncing notifications across all connected devices. Furthermore, the Android 15 QPR1 Beta 2 has disclosed an option to personalize the mouse pointer.
