“Again? That land is cursed”: Community reacts to Fortnite glitch that is mysteriously eliminating players
Despite its popularity, Fortnite is not immune to glitches that can negatively impact the gameplay experience. Among the most notorious of these is the random kill zone found at a specific location on the map, which can result in players being unexpectedly eliminated when crossing a certain area.
As shown in a recent Reddit clip shared by u/CharlyXero, the glitch has made its way to the Fortnite Chapter 5 map. During a joyride with their teammate, the duo’s experience was abruptly ended when they unintentionally drove over one of these kill zones.
This has caused confusion among many players, as Reddit user u/El_Yeante pointed out by stating:

The Reddit clip features u/CharlyXero participating in a squad Zero Build match while dressed in the Spider-Gwen skin. They can be seen skillfully maneuvering a Trail Thrasher dirtbike through the snowy terrain alongside their teammate.
Despite their efforts to reach the safe zone, the player and their teammate were knocked down by a patch of snow near the Grand Glacier POI while driving, but luckily, the Trail Thrasher remained undamaged.

The strange glitch quickly sparked a series of jokes from members of the Fortnite community. Redditor u/Xenc made a humorous remark, suggesting that the player was knocked due to their free trial for the Trail Thrasher dirtbike expiring.
u/HairOnBones and Classic-Bullfrog-219 also joined in, playfully mentioning the player’s speed violation and drawing parallels to a surprise heart attack.

u/A-non-e-mail and u/Half-Eaten-Cranberry both noticed a similar glitch in Fortnite during different seasons. u/A-non-e-mail pointed it out in Chapter 5 of Season 1, while u/Half-Eaten-Cranberry highlighted it during Chapter 4 of Season 5.
Furthermore, u/No-Difference8545 was able to track down the glitch to its origin in Chapter 1, where a similar kill zone was found in Wailing Woods.

Despite the odd occurrence seen in the Reddit video posted by u/CharlyXero, it appears that there could be a logical reason behind it. The game includes a death barrier beneath the map to discourage players from exploiting glitches and cheating. In some areas of the map, the barrier extends above ground level.

Reddit user u/_Hideyourwife_ pointed out that there are multiple kill zones scattered throughout the map in each previous chapter. They also noted that the Chapter 1 map had the highest number of kill zones compared to the others.
Despite players cautiously maneuvering through their environment, it is yet to be determined how Epic Games will address and resolve this problem in order to prevent similar occurrences as shown in u/CharlyXero’s Reddit video.
