
Valve has rolled out a significant update with the release of the SteamOS 3.7.0 Preview, codenamed “Pi Day.”This version introduces an enhanced Linux Kernel, updated KDE Plasma, a new Mesa Graphics Driver, and a plethora of improvements aimed at enhancing the user experience on the Steam Deck.

The SteamOS 3.7.0 Preview represents one of Valve’s most substantial updates to date for the Steam Deck. With the integration of KDE Plasma, users can enjoy a more desktop-like experience, alongside other notable enhancements that increase the usability and performance of the device.
According to Valve’s release notes, the update includes critical improvements such as a new Arch Linux base, which facilitates more efficient software installations and security updates. The transition to Linux Kernel version 6.11 also promises notable advancements in system performance, security enhancements, and upgraded hardware support.

Enhanced Desktop Experience with Plasma 6.2.5
Among the standout upgrades is the shift from Plasma 5.7 to Plasma 6.2.5. This transition allows Steam Deck users to utilize a feature-rich desktop interface, bringing the experience closer to that of conventional desktop computers. Plasma 6 was initially launched in February of last year and is built on cutting-edge technologies such as Qt 6 and KDE Frameworks 6, introducing a wide array of tools and functionalities for Linux users.

The SteamOS 3.7.0 Preview introduces several crucial updates that enhance Controller and Input functionality, Bluetooth connectivity, graphics performance, and address previous bugs. This version also includes better surround sound support for desktop mode, a smoother transition between desktop and gaming modes, and fixes such as addressing freezes experienced in desktop functionalities.
