The launch of inZOI in the life simulation gaming sphere has sparked a variety of reactions. While it may not have fully captured the excitement of players with its gameplay mechanics, its robust character creation system stands out as a significant highlight. Players can craft a photorealistic Zoi character, featuring a vast array of facial customization options that, while needing to adhere to certain aesthetic guidelines reminiscent of popular South Korean pop idols, still allow for impressive creativity. The Character Studio has attracted commendations that could maintain player engagement throughout the early access phase.
In addition to sculpting unique faces, players have the opportunity to personalize their Zois’ wardrobes. The initial assortment of clothing and accessories is commendable for a launch, with many items offering customization options that extend beyond simple color swaps. However, there are current limitations—the absence of tattoo options stands out as a notable drawback.
For fans eager to see their Zois adorned with ink, there is some good news: while there are no traditional tattoos per se at launch, a feature being referred to as “face paint”can serve a similar purpose. A more comprehensive tattoo capability is anticipated in an upcoming update scheduled for August 2025. In the meantime, let’s explore how to access tattoos in inZOI.
How to Access Tattoos in inZOI
First and foremost, it’s important to set realistic expectations regarding the availability of tattoos in inZOI’s early access version. Currently, players can only apply tattoos to the face and neck of their Zois. The developers have indicated that full-body tattoo capabilities are on the timeline for a future update, but for now, the selections are undeniably limited.
Interestingly, the in-game options for tattoos are not labeled as such, which can complicate their discovery within the Creation Studio. To find this feature, navigate through Appearance > Face > Face Characteristics. At the bottom of the skin detail options, you will uncover a tab labeled Face Paint. Though the nomenclature may be misleading, this section houses the tattoo-like designs.
Adding to the confusion is that, in a game that categorizes moles and freckles separately, tattoos are placed alongside certain elements that are, in fact, actual face paints. Nevertheless, any design applied from this section remains consistent across all outfits for the selected Zoi, resembling true tattoos in practice despite the differences in terminology.
However, there are several limitations within this system that players should be aware of. Currently, only one “face paint”can be utilized at a time, meaning that layering multiple designs isn’t an option. Additionally, the placement of these designs is fixed by the game’s defaults, restricting personal customization. Right now, players can only modify the color through a basic color wheel.
Despite these constraints, the game already boasts a selection of aesthetically pleasing designs, even though tattoos haven’t been officially recognized as a feature yet. Hopefully, players can find something appealing while anticipating the enhanced tattoo options expected to arrive in August.
