Natsuko’s Distinctive Look

Natsuko embraces a style that prioritizes comfort, favoring a purple hoodie paired with black leggings and red-and-white slip-on sneakers. The hoodie features spacious pockets that conveniently house her peg bar and essential drawing tools.

Her physical appearance reflects a lifestyle characterized by her work-focused habits. Due to her diet of convenience foods and late-night work sessions, she appears thin and somewhat unkempt. Notably, her exceptionally long hair often obscures her face — a choice she made to postpone a haircut until finishing her project, which can be interpreted as both self-discipline and self-neglect.

Natsuko’s Complex Character

Natsuko’s personality is a blend of traits that make her standout: a perfectionist with a penchant for self-reliance, she often sacrifices her well-being in pursuit of her artistic vision. However, she’s also infused with a sense of humor and an infectious enthusiasm for anime that shines through when discussing her favorite film, A Tale of Perishing.

Her remarkable creativity facilitates the development of vivid characters inspired by various anime archetypes, and this imaginative prowess makes her particularly relatable to younger audiences. Yet, this talent can sometimes manifest as narcissism, a challenge she grapples with internally.

Natsuko’s authenticity is her most admirable quality; she’s straightforward and unafraid to speak her mind, which has a positive impact on the characters around her. For example, a pivotal moment in the series features Natsuko empowering the timid Destiny Heartwarming to stand against the oppressive Chairman, spurring her to embrace independence and pursue her passion for social activism.

The saga of how Natsuko Hirose becomes entwined with her favorite animated film unfolds during a critical juncture in her burgeoning career. After the success of her magical girl series, Natsuko is tasked with creating a romantic film. However, her personal inexperience with love leads to creative block, leaving her feeling adrift.

While working diligently on storyboards, a generous executive distributes bento boxes during lunch. While consuming one, Natsuko unwittingly ingests expired clams, resulting in severe food poisoning that drastically alters her fate.

Upon waking, she finds herself in a vast desert, grappling with the shock of her situation. By chance, she encounters familiar faces — Luke Braveheart, a gallant knight, Memerun, an elven warrior, QJ, a small floating robot, and Unio, a chibi unicorn who sports a vibrant personality. These characters belong to A Tale of Perishing, the film she was watching when her fate took a turn for the bizarre.

Natsuko joins the group as they journey to the Last Town, the last bastion of resistance against vicious foes known as Voids, which threaten the essence of all life. She courageously attempts to warn her new allies about an impending attack but is met with skepticism and disbelief.

As predicted, the dreaded Voids launch an assault on the Last Town, resulting in a significant turning point in both the story and Natsuko’s arc. During this confrontation, the emotional weight of the narrative intensifies when Unio’s fate comes crashing down. Encouraged by a sentient peg bar, Natsuko realizes she has the power to animate her visions, propelling her to draw a new destiny for her companions and ultimately prevail against the impending doom.

Through her artistic interventions, Natsuko embarks on numerous adventures, thwarting the Voids and forging heartfelt connections with the characters from A Tale of Perishing. Though she initially sees her newfound skills as a means to keep danger at bay, deeper issues soon arise that require more than just a few sketches to resolve.
