At the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction ceremony in Cleveland, Ohio, on October 19, 2024, Zendaya paid tribute to Cher by donning a stunning vintage Bob Mackie gown. The star of Euphoria graced the red carpet at Rocket Mortgage Fieldhouse wearing a dazzling piece from Mackie’s Fall 2001 ‘Foreign Intrigue’ collection.
The enchanting gown boasted a sheer golden fabric featuring a twisted halterneck design and an open bodice secured with golden straps crisscrossing over her midsection. The low-rise skirt showcased her toned hips and had an eye-catching high slit down the middle.
To enhance her look, she paired the intricately beaded gown with a luxurious white silk-satin trench coat, which was accented with golden embroidered lines along the collar and cuffs. Completing the ensemble, Zendaya accessorized with Christian Louboutin’s So Kate golden pumps, sculpted cuffs, and a hint of blush makeup.
In a nod to the musical legend, she styled her long hair with a middle part, mimicking Cher’s iconic slicked-back hairstyle. Zendaya’s breathtaking look was expertly curated by her stylist, Law Roach.
Zendaya’s Evolution in Fashion Over the Years
This isn’t the first instance where Zendaya has made a splash with her fashion statements.
Alongside her stylist, Law Roach, the duo has crafted some of the most memorable fashion moments in contemporary history. Roach’s styling journey with Zendaya began when she was just 14, dressing her for the premiere of Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never in 2011.
The Hollywood star has previously wowed audiences with her Joan of Arc-inspired outfit at the 2018 Met Gala. Roach was also instrumental in styling her striking metallic Mugler suit and the elegant brown Bottega Veneta gown worn during the press tour for Dune: Part Two in 2024.
Additionally, her look in the Thierry Mugler pencil skirt suit from the Challengers press tour further solidified her status as a fashionista.
With Law Roach’s expertise, Zendaya has swiftly risen to become a fashion icon of her generation.
Cher: The Timeless Muse of Bob Mackie
During the ceremony, Zendaya took the stage to induct Cher, expressing heartfelt words:
“Where do I even begin? Cher is not one person. Her name is just as legendary as her legacy.”
Dressed in an all-black ensemble, Cher captivated the audience with a lively rendition of her classic track, If I Could Turn Back Time.
Zendaya’s choice to wear a Mackie creation was a fitting homage to Cher, who has been the designer’s muse since the 1960s. Mackie crafted many iconic outfits for Cher during her time on The Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour and The Cher Show, creating some of the most memorable fashion moments.
Cher was honored that night alongside other music legends like Mary J. Blige, Ozzy Osbourne, Foreigner, Dave Matthews Band, Peter Frampton, A Tribe Called Quest, and Kool & The Gang. The ceremony also recognized the contributions of late artists Jimmy Buffett, John Mayall, MC5, Norman Whitfield, Alexis Korner, and Big Mama Thornton.
