The Legend of Zelda: Echoes of Wisdom features an extensive campaign mode, allowing players to join Zelda as she navigates the expansive world of Hyrule. Players will engage in epic battles against bosses, gather rewards, and complete a multitude of side quests. One intriguing quest titled “One Soldier Too Many”sees Zelda transforming into a detective to uncover which soldier’s actions may be suspicious.
To undertake this side quest, players must first complete the main quest “Still Missing.”The quest initiates at the southern entrance of Hyrule Castle Town, where a guard named Beecher will approach Zelda, seeking her help to identify the impostor among the soldiers.
Investigating the Suspicious Soldier
Beecher requests Zelda’s assistance, mentioning that General Wright has tasked him with investigating his fellow soldiers. He hints that there is one soldier too many, implying an impostor is lurking among them. Throughout the castle, various soldiers can be questioned about the suspect, but three specific soldiers must be interrogated to advance the quest:
- A guard stationed to the right of the fountain will direct Zelda towards a soldier on the Western Rampart.
- This soldier will further guide Zelda to the barracks, suggesting that another guard on duty might have more information.
- Inside the barracks, a guard will inform Zelda about some missing broken equipment. After which, Beecher will arrive and ask whether the investigation has progressed. Report your findings to Beecher, indicating that the suspect may have the damaged equipment.
Identifying the Impostor and Claiming Your Reward
Upon reporting to Beecher, Zelda can continue her exploration of the castle in search of a soldier with broken equipment. Not every guard requires interrogation; the one with the damaged gear can be found near the well. Upon inspection, Zelda will discover that his lance is broken.
Return to the barracks to speak with Beecher, who will quiz you to get to the bottom of the situation. During this dialogue, mention that you spotted a suspicious soldier and provide the following answers:
- Where did you see the suspicious soldier? Near the well.
- And which piece of equipment was damaged? The lance.
A cutscene will follow, revealing that the impostor had noble intentions; he merely wanted to join the army but resorted to stealing some uniform and equipment to do so! General Wright will express his gratitude to Zelda, rewarding her with a Golden Egg, thus concluding the quest.
