“Your top map creators are abusing your system and exploiting players”: Fortnite pro SypherPK calls for Creative change
Ever since its introduction, Fortnite Creative has provided players with the opportunity to delve into uncharted territories within the game, ranging from basic Team Deathmatch modes to challenging deathruns that demand a mastery of movement mechanics. Nevertheless, some players have raised concerns about Creative, particularly SypherPK, a renowned Fortnite player and influencer, who has shed light on a common practice used by the most skilled map creators to deceive their players.
SypherPK pointed out that certain popular maps, like The Pit, Crazyy Red Vs Blue, and BHE 1v1 Build Fights, utilize manipulative tactics in the form of appealing items to coerce players into favoring and promoting their map for increased engagement. In response to these unethical actions, SypherPK expressed:
“Your top map creators are abusing your system and exploiting players”
SypherPK posted a video in which he expressed his disapproval of these maps, specifically focusing on The Pit. He demonstrated how the map contains a Thunderbolt of Zeus, a highly coveted item in any game mode, and encourages players to show their support by liking and favoriting the map in hopes of obtaining the item.
Similarly to SypherPK’s thoughts, renowned content creator Typical Gamer added his voice and expressed his disappointment in Epic Games’ lack of action towards these practices, stating that it reflects poorly on the game’s reputation.
Several users, including @TiTanSwan27, voiced their disapproval of Geerzy, the creators of The Pit map in Fortnite, and suggested that their creator code should be revoked due to their questionable practices. However, @NevermoreTitan and @AstroDraws commended SypherPK for publicly calling out the creators for their actions.
One user, @Richytoons, humorously remarked that they were still eagerly anticipating the Thunderbolt of Zeus after clicking the like and favorite buttons. Meanwhile, @renomahm highlighted the fact that these maps are commonly played by young children who may easily be deceived by false information.
SypherPK criticizes Fortnite Creator Geerzy’s handling of DMCA issues
Moreover, apart from using unethical methods to increase their engagement, SypherPK also exposed Geerzy for trying to have any maps containing the word “pit”removed. It seems that Geerzy has applied for a trademark for their “The Pit”map, but it is still under review and has not been approved yet.
Several individuals in the community have spoken up to emphasize that as the trademark has not been officially assigned, Geerzy does not possess the authority to remove maps that include the term “pit”in their title. Furthermore, users have brought attention to the fact that everyday words such as “pit”cannot be trademarked according to the US Patent Office.
Despite this, players have pointed out that The Pit is not a unique concept and was actually first introduced in Halo 3, with a map of the same name already existing in the 2007 game, almost ten years before Fortnite was even developed. As the controversy surrounding Geerzy unfolds, it remains uncertain if Epic Games will intervene and safeguard the integrity of the Fortnite community from such actions.
