“You Let Him Go Two Days Ago and Now This?” – Fans Criticize Universal Music Over Liam Payne Label Departure

Reports suggest that Universal Music Group made the decision to part ways with Liam Payne from their Capitol Records imprint just days before his tragic death on October 16. Liam tragically fell from the balcony of his third-floor room at the CasaSur Palermo Hotel in Buenos Aires on Wednesday evening.

According to findings from his initial autopsy, the cause of death was identified as “multiple trauma and hemorrhage”resulting from a fall of approximately 45 feet.

As heartfelt tributes began to emerge for the beloved One Direction figure, UMG took to X to express their sorrow:

“We are heartbroken over the unexpected loss of Liam Payne. His musical legacy will be cherished by his numerous fans who loved and admired him.”

The music giant extended their sympathies to Liam’s family and friends in light of this devastating news. However, the rumors of Liam’s recent dismissal from the label quickly spread, leading many fans to voice their outrage towards Universal Music Group.

“You dropped him just days ago and now you’re sharing this tribute. Where was your concern then?”one user lamented.

“Maybe you shouldn’t have let him go so close to this tragedy,”added another comment.

“Perhaps adopting a better health and wellness strategy for your artists is needed. Supporting them could have prevented this situation. Shame on you,”criticized a different user.

“If you truly cared, why are you withholding his last projects? Looks like you’re more focused on appearances than on his legacy,”another fan remarked.

Many felt that the label held some accountability for Liam’s untimely passing. They speculated that the abrupt decision to sever ties may have exacerbated the emotional distress the Polaroid singer was experiencing, which could have led him to substance use that resulted in his death.

“You had a part in his demise. I believe dropping him triggered the distress he felt before last night’s events. I hope Liam’s family and his four brothers take legal action against you,”a user asserted.

“You’re overwhelming with sadness… sadness for the profits you lost when he wasn’t churning out hits, which is why you let him go so soon. Hypocrites!”another fan called out.

Universal Music Group allegedly put a hold on Liam Payne’s second album prior to his dismissal

The Daily Mail reports that a source indicated Liam had been struggling to regain his footing as a successful solo artist, despite his fame as a One Direction member. The source mentioned:

“Among all the One Direction members, Liam’s musical direction seemed misguided.”

Additionally, the publication suggested that UMG likely stalled the release of Liam Payne’s second album just before they dropped him.

Earlier in October, it was reported that Liam’s public relations team had also left amidst legal disputes with his ex-fiancé, Maya Henry. An insider described how Liam’s musical foundation, built over eight years, was “crumbling” due to these challenges, stating:

“There was very little hope left for him… This had to be incredibly disheartening.”

Before his passing, Liam reportedly exhibited erratic behavior in the hotel lobby and even damaged his laptop, prompting hotel staff to call 911 out of concern.

After his death, his hotel suite was discovered in disarray, with various medications scattered around the space. A broken TV screen was also found in the room.

Police in Argentina later found clonazepam, a medication used to treat seizures and panic disorders, among other substances.
