“You got to still do it” – Jonathan Di Bella on the importance of fine-tuning his kickboxing fundamentals
Jonathan Di Bella, the reigning ONE strawweight kickboxing world champion, attributes his achievements to his unwavering commitment to honing his fundamental skills through constant training. While he acknowledges the fatigue that comes with it, he recognizes that it is a necessary aspect of staying at the pinnacle of his sport.
As he prepares for his second defense of his world title at ONE Friday Fights 58 in Bangkok, Thailand on April 5, the Canadian-Italian fighter shared his thoughts. He is set to face off against ONE strawweight Muay Thai champion Prajanchai PK Saenchai in what promises to be an exciting clash between two champions.
In an interview with the South China Morning Post prior to defending his title, Jonathan Di Bella emphasized the challenges of maintaining his fundamental skills and stressed their significance.
The standout from Team Di Bella Kickboxing, who is 27 years old, stated:
“Just repeating the basics, repeating everything, over and over every day. The same thing over and over again and, you know, sometimes you get tired of it mentally but physically, you know, you got to still do it.”

Jonathan Di Bella successfully defended his world title in October against Danial Williams, an Australian-Thai challenger who he defeated by unanimous decision. This victory was a repeat of his previous win, when he claimed the vacant ONE strawweight kickboxing world title over Zhang Peimian of China by decision one year prior.
Prajanchai is determined to add another championship title to his name, as he aims to dethrone the current world champion. He will have the opportunity to achieve this feat at ONE Friday Fights 58, where he hopes to secure a win and become a two-sport ONE world champion. In December, he solidified his status as the undisputed strawweight Muay Thai champion by defeating former titleholder Joseph Lasiri in the first round of their unification bout.
The upcoming ONE Friday Fights 58 event is scheduled to be held at the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium. To catch the live broadcast from wherever you are, please refer to your local listings or visit the official website of ONE Championship.
