The reality series “Love is Blind Habibi”made its debut on Netflix on October 10, featuring Arabian singles who sought love that transcended physical appearances. Throughout the show, several couples got engaged, excitedly preparing for their upcoming wedding day.
In the week leading up to their nuptials, Chafiq voiced his worries regarding Daunia’s commitment to their union. Daunia acknowledged the significance of marriage but felt it would entail her stepping away from her mother’s influence.
Chafiq expressed frustration over Daunia’s attachment to her mom, suggesting that she shouldn’t involve her in every aspect of their relationship. He said to Daunia:
“When there are issues between us, it’s between you and me. Your mom shouldn’t be involved. You need to create distance between yourself and your mom on this.”
Concerns Arise as Chafiq Questions Daunia’s Commitment to Their Future
As episode 7 concluded just six days before their wedding, both Chafiq and Daunia opened up about their anxieties regarding the impending ceremony. Chafiq prompted Daunia about her feelings towards the marriage, to which she responded that although she was thrilled, there was a persistent stress that accompanied it.
After sharing his feelings about their recent conflicts, Chafiq reflected during a confessional:
“In the past week, Dounia and I have been arguing quite a bit. It’s crucial for us to communicate openly before we tie the knot, as this is a significant decision and a massive step for us.”
Chafiq conveyed to Dounia the gravity of their marriage decision, emphasizing that it represented a pivotal change in his life. Dounia acknowledged it as a substantial commitment too, but Chafiq felt an increased sense of pressure, perceiving Dounia as being too relaxed about the situation.
Dounia clarified that she wasn’t naturally expressive, suggesting that while she experienced moments of stress in their relationship, she didn’t hold onto them constantly. This left Chafiq puzzled regarding her perspective, leading him to stress the seriousness of their upcoming marriage. He told her:
“I don’t think you fully appreciate what getting married truly means… Your name changes, and you will be under my name… This is a commitment to God, and you need to be 100% sure… Because as for me, I’ll never consider divorce.”
Dounia reassured him that she understood the weight of marriage. She expressed that her future spouse would need to be her closest friend, father figure, and the strongest presence in her life. She elaborated:
“We come from different backgrounds. My mom has been everything for me… I feel like I have a broken shoulder, and that shoulder is meant to be my dad, okay?”
She opened up about her father’s absence and the deep bond with her mother. In her confessional, Dounia emphasized that no one could replace her mother or sever their tie.
Dounia recalled moments of heartache stemming from her father’s absence, with her mother providing consistent support throughout her life. She conveyed to Chafiq:
“I feel like… As my mom has told you, I’m still a baby, and now I’m going from her hands to yours.”
While Chafiq recognized the importance of Dounia’s relationship with her mother, he insisted it shouldn’t disrupt their own bond. He shared in a confessional:
“I want to comfort her, but I feel conflicted. My heart says to embrace her, while my mind says otherwise, because it feels like there are three of us in this relationship.”
