‘You are a record-breaker and history-maker’: Michelle Obama praises Beyoncé for Cowboy Carter album
Michelle Obama took to Instagram to show her admiration for Beyoncé’s Cowboy Carter album, which was released on March 29. The former First Lady of the United States referred to the 42-year-old American singer as a ‘record-breaker’ in her detailed caption accompanying the post.
“You are a record-breaker and history-maker. With ‘Cowboy Carter’, you have changed the game once again by helping redefine a music genre and transform our culture.
Additionally, Mrs. Obama stated,
“This album reminds us that we ALL have power.”
In 2024, Cowboy Carter quickly gained popularity and became the most streamed album on Spotify in a single day, with approximately 76 million streams.
Michelle Obama Praises Beyoncé’s Latest Studio Album
Mrs. Obama wrote a detailed caption in which she praised Beyoncé for redefining a genre with her latest work. She also added,
“Cowboy Carter is a reminder that despite everything we’ve been through to be heard, seen, and recognized, we can still dance, sing, and be who we are unapologetically.”
Despite already posting an appreciation post for the singer on Instagram, she has also shared the same post on X.
“There’s power in our history, in our joy, and in our votes — and we can each use our own gifts and talents to make our voices heard on the issues that matter most to us.”
“As Queen Bey says at the end of Ya Ya, we need to ‘keep the faith’ and ‘ VOTE!’”
The album has been met with overwhelming adoration and support from fans. One fan expressed their admiration on Beyoncé’s Instagram post, praising the song as a ‘pure artistic masterpiece.’ The user stated,
“I am in love. Choosing American Requiem as the first song with those lyrics was a clear and deliberate choice and shows you just how magnificent she is.”
Several other celebrities, including American DJ Diplo, singer Rahsaan Patterson, Jack White, Trisha Yearwood, Miley Cyrus, and Dolly Parton, have all praised Cowboy Carter.
The Obamas’ Praise for Beyoncé and Jay-Z: A History of Mutual Admiration
Beyoncé originally uploaded the photo that Michelle Obama shared, when she announced the release of her album. Beyoncé and her husband Jay-Z have been longtime supporters of the Obamas, particularly during President Barack Obama’s 2012 re-election campaign. Beyoncé even performed the National Anthem at the second inauguration.
Mrs. Obama has shared a message in support of Beyoncé following her recent release, but this is not the first time she has done so. Both Barack and Michelle Obama have been vocal supporters of both Jay-Z and Beyoncé, and have frequently included their songs on public playlists.
Upon the release of the singer’s song Break My Soul, the former First Lady of the United States took to Twitter to express her thoughts, writing,
“You’ve done it again! ‘Break My Soul’ is the song we all need right now, and I can’t help but dance and sing along while listening to it. Can’t wait for the album!”
When Beyoncé released Homecoming in 2019, she received support from Michelle Obama. The former first lady also spoke about Beyoncé during the same year, saying,
“Loving Michelle Obama wasn’t much of a choice. It was something that came naturally, because of how she carried herself.”
Michelle Obama also emphasized the importance of registering to vote in the upcoming US Presidential Elections, scheduled for November 2024.
