YG Entertainment Closes Actor Management Division, Redirects Major Focus to Music Industry

YG Entertainment Refocuses on Music by Closing Acting Department

YG Entertainment, renowned for producing global music sensations such as BLACKPINK and TREASURE, is undergoing a significant transformation by dismantling its acting management division. This strategic shift highlights the company’s renewed dedication to its primary mission: music.

Structural Changes and Future Direction

According to a report from Xports News, YG has officially closed its acting department as part of a broader strategy to streamline operations. The company expressed heartfelt thanks to its actors, actresses, and their fans for the unwavering support they received throughout the years.

Consolidation of Resources

In line with its new focus, YG Entertainment has been trimming down less profitable sectors, concentrating its efforts and resources into enhancing its music operations. Notably, in 2024, YG integrated its dance academy, YGX, into its Global Training Center. This merger aims to utilize the expertise and capabilities effectively, preparing for a more robust artistic output.

Ambitions for Growth and Development

The restructuring plans are ambitious, with YG Entertainment projecting a promising future as it enhances its production capabilities. The internal production team has expanded significantly from just ten to over fifty members, signifying the agency’s commitment to generating high-quality music content.

In a recent statement, YG representatives emphasized their intent to fortify the company’s core operations. “We are realigning our business model to center on our strengths in music. By 2025, we anticipate that these measures will yield substantial results, paving the way for enhanced sustainability of our intellectual properties and accelerated identification and development of new talents,” they noted.

Current Artist Lineup

Despite the transition, YG maintains a dynamic roster, featuring popular artists such as Lee Sung Kyung, Yoo In Na, Son Na Eun, Cha Seung Won, and Lee Soo Hyuk. The company is poised to navigate this phase with optimism as it reinforces its leadership within the vibrant music industry.
