This week marked a significant milestone for Xiaomi as CEO Lei Jun unveiled the XRING 01, the company’s latest chipset, which was soon followed by a notable benchmark leak. Preliminary results illustrate that, while the Snapdragon 8 Elite still outpaces the XRING 01, the performance gap is minimal. This development indicates that Xiaomi’s decade-long investment in research and development is beginning to yield competitive results, positioning the brand as a formidable contender against industry giants like Qualcomm and MediaTek. XRING 01: Performance Insights and Potential Challenges

The recent leak, shared by well-known tipster @Jukanlosreve, revealed a Geekbench 6 listing for the Xiaomi model 25042PN24C. Although our search yielded limited results for this benchmark, the setup comprises a ‘2 + 4 + 2 + 2′ core configuration. Notably, the most robust core is likely ARM’s Cortex-X925, which operates at an impressive 3.90GHz. Earlier rumors suggested that the XRING 01 would integrate the British chip design firm’s latest designs rather than using in-house cores, with the Cortex-X925 reportedly clocked at a lower 3.20GHz.

This increase to 3.90GHz hints that the XRING 01 is being manufactured using TSMC’s advanced 3nm process node, rather than the previous 4nm node, facilitating higher clock speeds while managing thermal performance effectively. Among its other cores, four are functioning at 3.40GHz, presumably also Cortex-X925 units, while the remainder likely includes Cortex-A725 cores.

To enhance the XRING 01’s capabilities against competition such as the Snapdragon 8 Elite and Dimensity 9400+, Xiaomi appears to have increased the core count intentionally, albeit possibly at the cost of power efficiency. For context, the Xiaomi 15 Pro achieved benchmark scores of 2, 919 in single-core and 8, 699 in multi-core tests, making the XRING 01 approximately 7% slower in multi-threaded performance. Nonetheless, the benchmark results suggest discrepancies in the chipset’s specifications, which warrants further investigation.

Interestingly, previous reports indicated the XRING 01 would utilize a ‘1 + 3 + 4′ core configuration, contrasting with the currently leaked details. This inconsistency raises questions about the potential existence of a slower variant of the custom silicon tailored for another device featuring an 8-core CPU.
