Xiaomi Book S, premiere of the Chinese brand 2 in 1

Xiaomi Book S will be the first 2 in 1 with Windows of the Chinese brand. A tablet with a keyboard and mouse, cool features, pre-installed Windows 11 and a price that we can consider moderate, but not as attractive as its mobile phones.

There’s no shortage of good 2-in-1s, as we recently saw updating our buying guide for a segment where models like the Microsoft Surface Pro 8, Apple iPad Pro, or Samsung Galaxy Tab S8 stand out. But there are other players who want a piece of the pie, and Xiaomi has already shown what it can do with everything it sells.

Xiaomi Book S specifications

Introduced along with several new products, such as the Mi Band 7 bracelet, we are facing a typical 2-in-1. We have already said that this type of product is a short distance away from a tablet, but it should offer more than that until it achieves the ability to replace a portable computer in mobility and on the desktop due to size, performance, connectivity and software.

The Xiaomi model is based on a tablet with an aluminum-magnesium body (8.95 mm and 720 grams) and a 12.4-inch multi-touch LCD screen with a resolution of 2K 2560 x 1600 pixels, 16:10 aspect ratio, 60 Hz. refresh rate and brightness of 500 nits. The screen is covered with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and supports 100% sRGB color gamut.

It is powered by a 7nm Snapdragon 8cx Gen 2 processor, consisting of an octa-core processor and Adreno 680 graphics. This is not Qualcomm’s latest development for Windows on ARM, as it introduced Gen3 last December. Either Xiaomi did not have time to use it, or intends to save money.

The chip is paired with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM and a 256GB SSD. It has Wi-Fi 5 and Bluetooth 5.1, a 13MP rear camera, a 5MP front camera, a memory card slot, and a USB-C port for data transfer and charging via a 65W fast charger. It is equipped with stereo speakers, two microphones and a 3.5mm audio jack.

Along with the tablet, Xiaomi will offer two additional accessories: a full-sized magnetic keyboard with keys 1.3mm wide and 1.5mm high for comfortable typing, and a stylus with a sampling rate of 240Hz and 4096 pressure levels.

With Windows 11 preinstalled, the Xiaomi Book S will be available from June 30 at the official European price of 699 euros. It is not bad, although its price is not as attractive as that of its smartphones. Xiaomi has a lot of competition here, from the iPad to the high-end Samsung and, speaking of Windows, Microsoft’s own Surface.
