XDefiant Season 2 Launch Date Set for September 25; Ubisoft Reports Positive Game Performance

Ubisoft has officially launched its much-anticipated free-to-play shooter, xDefiant, in May. However, rumors surfaced over the summer suggesting that the game experienced a decline in its online player base following an initially strong launch.

In a recent update, Ubisoft has shared the first details about the Season 2 update for xDefiant and took the opportunity to dispel the rumors concerning the game’s health.

In a blog post, Ubisoft addressed player concerns:

No, the game is absolutely not dying. We acknowledge there are areas that need improvement such as Netcode/Hit registration and increasing content for progression, but rest assured, the game is performing well. Our goal is to enhance that performance by responding to the community’s feedback, which has always been our strategy. Ubisoft is fully supportive and has allocated additional resources to our team to ensure these improvements.

Additionally, in another blog post, Ubisoft unveiled exciting details regarding Season 2, which introduces a new faction called The Highwaymen, drawing inspiration from characters and environments from the previous title, Far Cry: New Dawn. Players who opt for the Season Pass will also gain access to three new weapons during this season.

As Season 2 progresses, Ubisoft plans to implement a brand new Bomb mode where one team must transport a bomb to a designated location on the map, attempting to keep it ticking until detonation. Meanwhile, other teams will work to either capture or defuse the bomb. The first team to secure victory in six rounds will win the overall Bomb match.

Another highly anticipated feature, private matches, will be introduced in Season 2. Ubisoft described this feature:

You’ll have the ability to choose the map, mode (both Ranked and Unranked), and player count for your lobby. In private matches, the standard configurations of 6v6 (or 4v4 in Ranked) will be available, and you can customize to formats such as 1v1, 2v2, or trios.

Moreover, the new map Waterfront, set in the vicinity of Far Cry: New Dawn’s Hope County, Montana, will also be made available in Season 2.
