Microsoft Enhances Xbox Cloud Gaming with Streaming for Owned Games
After months filled with anticipation and speculation, Microsoft has made a significant upgrade to its Xbox Cloud Gaming platform as of November. This enhancement allows gamers to stream their owned titles, expanding the scope of what was initially available. However, it’s important to note that the feature was initially limited to playback via web browsers on devices such as PCs and smartphones, excluding Xbox consoles.
Changes in Availability Timeline
Initially, Microsoft indicated that the streaming feature wouldn’t be available on Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles until 2025. However, recent developments have shifted this timeline.
Exclusive Access for Xbox Insiders
In a recent statement, Anu Reddy, Senior Product Manager at Xbox, announced, “We couldn’t wait to give you a present.” He revealed that as of today, Xbox Insiders in the Alpha Skip-Ahead and Alpha rings can begin to preview this eagerly awaited feature on their Xbox Series X|S and Xbox One consoles.
Getting Started With Cloud Game Streaming
If you are an Insider with Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, here’s how you can start streaming your owned titles on your console:
- Navigate to My Games & Apps → Full Library → Owned Games.
- Look for a cloud badge on any cloud playable games that you own.
- Utilize the filters by selecting Filter → Ready to Play → Cloud Gaming to streamline your search.
- Select the desired game and click Play with Cloud Gaming.
- Note that direct launching from the Store app and streaming from the Xbox app on Windows PC is on the horizon.
Benefits of Streaming Your Games
“With the ‘Stream your own game’ feature on Xbox consoles, you can stream select games without having to install them,” Reddy explained. This capability not only conserves your console’s storage but also streamlines your gaming experience, allowing you to access your library swiftly through Xbox Cloud Gaming (Beta).
Future Expansions and Supported Titles
Currently, around 50 games are supported for streaming, and this list is expected to grow over time. Xbox players can find the complete list of streamable titles by visiting this link.
