Microsoft Enhances Xbox App with New Universal Launcher Features
Microsoft has recently revealed a significant upgrade to the Xbox app on Windows, positioning it as a universal launcher. This development comes as part of a broader initiative to streamline user experience, particularly for Xbox Insiders. A notable new feature will allow users to install various third-party Windows applications, including different storefronts, directly from the Xbox app. This addition is especially beneficial for gaming on handheld devices like the ROG Ally, providing a more integrated and seamless experience.
Introducing the ‘My Apps’ Tab
Central to this update is the introduction of the ‘My Apps’ tab within the Xbox app’s library. Microsoft describes this feature as a dedicated space where users can “locate, view, and download third-party applications and commonly used storefronts.”This enhancement aims to simplify the navigation process, allowing users to access a variety of applications without leaving the app interface.
Supported Applications
While Microsoft has not provided a complete list of supported applications, initial visuals from the announcement indicate compatibility with platforms like Battle.net and GOG Galaxy, as well as the Microsoft Edge browser.
