Microsoft Enhances Xbox App on PC with Major New Features

Today, Microsoft has officially rolled out several significant features for the Xbox app on PC, previously available only to Insiders. These enhancements include the capability to manage installed third-party games directly from the app and the convenience of launching third-party storefronts such as Steam or GOG without needing to access the desktop environment.

Introduction of the Aggregated Gaming Library

One of the standout features in this update is the Aggregated Gaming Library. True to its name, this feature consolidates all games installed on the device into the Xbox app, allowing for quick and effortless access. As such, the Xbox app now functions as a comprehensive launcher similar to GOG Galaxy or Playnite, eliminating the hassle of juggling multiple launchers.

Cross-Platform Support

This update boasts support for titles from various platforms, including Xbox Game Pass, Steam, Epic Games Store, Battle.net, and GOG. Those who prefer not to utilize this feature can easily disable it in the app’s Settings.

“When you install a game from a supported PC storefront, it automatically appears in ‘My Library’ within the Xbox PC app, as well as the ‘Most Recent’ list of titles in the sidebar, so you can jump back into your favorite games with just a click, ”explains Microsoft.

Streamlined Access to Popular Apps

The newly introduced My Apps feature allows users to quickly access popular applications on Windows through the Xbox app. This functionality extends to rival store launchers and web browsers, facilitating a seamless experience. Microsoft is selectively choosing which applications to support, with plans for future updates to introduce additional options.

“This new tab in my library brings third-party apps and storefronts together in one convenient place, supporting the aggregated gaming library so you can find, download, and launch games from multiple locations without switching between apps or your desktop, ”the company elaborated.

Upcoming Features: Play History Upgrade

Later this month, Microsoft plans to enhance the user experience further by introducing the Play History upgrade. This feature will showcase cloud-playable games, enabling players to instantly resume their most recently played games from a dedicated list.

Aiming for Enhanced Handheld Gaming

The recent updates, as demonstrated in the images provided by Microsoft, are designed to significantly improve the handheld gaming experience on Windows devices. This focus on mobile gaming is especially timely, as Microsoft is set to launch two Xbox Ally handheld gaming devices this holiday season.
