Enhancements in Xbox Accessories App: New Calibration Tools and Mapping Options
Earlier this year, Microsoft introduced a highly beneficial thumbstick recalibration tool through the Xbox Accessories app, allowing gamers on Xbox consoles and Windows to self-correct minor centering issues with their controllers. Now, the company is rolling out additional improvements to this app, offering enhanced calibration and custom mapping capabilities for a better gaming experience.
New Trigger Calibration Tool
One of the standout features of this latest update is the introduction of a trigger calibration tool. This feature is compatible with standard Xbox controllers and the Elite Series 2, enabling players to address small trigger issues without needing to contact Microsoft Support for repairs.
“For players experiencing minor trigger issues on their Xbox Wireless Controller or Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2, we now offer a user-guided self-calibration tool for controller triggers through the Xbox Accessories App.”
Thumbstick Calibration Now Available for Elite Series 2
Additionally, the thumbstick calibration feature is now accessible for Xbox Elite Wireless Controller Series 2 users for the first time. Players dealing with worn-out or damaged controller components can conveniently order replacements directly from Microsoft.
It’s recommended that anyone undertaking self-repairs or part replacements utilize both calibration tools to ensure optimal performance and accuracy.
Increased Accessibility Through Custom Mapping Options
The app’s recent updates also focus on improving accessibility through a wider array of mapping options. Users with the Elite Series 2 or external joysticks connected to the Xbox Adaptive Controller can now map any button or keyboard input for enhanced gaming control. Notably, even mouse movements and buttons can be assigned to thumbsticks or joystick directions, providing gamers with greater customization.
Hat Switch Mapping for Enhanced Control
Furthermore, external joysticks featuring a hat switch—which typically facilitates looking around in-game—now have the option for mapping. This feature allows players to utilize the hat switch as “the opposite stick” when connected to the Xbox Adaptive Controller, enabling effective one-handed dual-stick maneuvering.
These updates demonstrate Microsoft’s commitment to enhancing the gaming experience and accessibility for all players through innovative tools and features.
