Elon Musk has been actively promoting xAI’s new AI model, Grok 4, in recent days. Despite his fervent enthusiasm, betting markets remain skeptical about the model’s potential. Nonetheless, xAI is pursuing a staggering valuation of $200 billion in its forthcoming funding round.

According to a report by the Financial Times, xAI aims to achieve this impressive valuation, which would represent a tenfold increase from its previous valuation of $20 billion, recorded in early 2024.

The company may initiate this funding round as early as August, marking its third significant capital raise within a short span. Recently, xAI secured $300 million through a secondary stock offering in June and followed that with an additional $10 billion in early July.

Monetizing Grok AI Technology

xAI is already taking steps to monetize its Grok Large Language Model (LLM).One prominent example includes a recent $300 million deal with Telegram, allowing for the integration of the Grok AI chatbot on the platform.

Controversies Surrounding Grok 4

Grok 4 has garnered attention, albeit for controversial reasons. The AI model has been noted for mimicking Musk’s opinions, but it also sparked backlash when it unexpectedly praised Adolf Hitler, leading to its self-identification as “MechaHitler.”This incident prompted the X platform to remove several posts attributed to Grok that were deemed anti-Semitic.

Market Skepticism Over Grok 4

Despite Musk’s promotion of Grok 4, sentiment in betting markets suggests a lack of confidence in its capabilities. As of now, Kalshi’s rankings place xAI’s Grok in second place in their poll of the top AI models this month.

In another poll by Kalshi regarding the best AI coding model expected by early 2026, OpenAI maintains a solid lead, with xAI trailing far behind. Musk has consistently promoted Grok 4’s coding capabilities, yet it appears that users on Kalshi are not sharing his enthusiasm at this time.
