WWE’s Perfect Replacement for Brock Lesnar: Why I Believe They Already Have Him Ready

WWE’s Perfect Replacement for Brock Lesnar: Why I Believe They Already Have Him Ready

Twenty-three years ago, WWE welcomed a remarkable talent named Brock Lesnar, branding him as “The Next Big Thing.”This bold declaration suggested that he was poised to become a leading figure for the promotion. Given Lesnar’s impressive track record that includes ten World Title reigns, five main events at WrestleMania, and the infamous breaking of The Undertaker’s Streak, it’s clear that he met, and perhaps exceeded, those high expectations.

The phenomenal success of Brock Lesnar has led WWE to seek out a suitable successor who could replicate his remarkable journey. While no candidate has come close to achieving the same level of success so far, I am firmly convinced that the next Brock Lesnar emerges from WWE’s own ranks: NXT’s Oba Femi.

Who Is Oba Femi? His WWE Journey Thus Far

The Road to Gold

NXT serves as WWE’s developmental territory where the company cultivates the Superstars of tomorrow. Located in Orlando, Florida, the Performance Center is the epicenter for training where emerging talents learn the intricacies of professional wrestling.Isaac Odugbesan, also known as Oba Femi, joined WWE in December 2021, boasting impressive credentials as a former SEC Indoor Track and Field Champion at the University of Alabama.

Standing at an imposing 6’6″and weighing 310 pounds, Femi signed with WWE via the Next in Line program designed to transition college athletes into the wrestling arena. After a year dedicated to honing his skills, he made his professional debut at a house show on November 11, 2022, followed by an NXT Level Up match shortly thereafter. His official television introduction came during NXT Spring Breakin’ 2023, where he triumphed over Oro Mensah, paving the way for an undefeated streak that culminated in an NXT North American Championship victory against Dragon Lee on January 9, 2024.

Establishing a remarkable title reign, Femi’s tenure with the North American Championship lasted 273 days, setting a record for the title. However, he faced unexpected defeat from Tony D’Angelo on the October 8 episode of NXT, ending both his title run and unbeaten streak. Femi demonstrated resilience, clinching victory in the Iron Survivor match at NXT Deadline, thereby securing a shot at the NXT Championship. Seizing the opportunity, Oba Femi captured the NXT Championship from Trick Williams at New Year’s Evil 2025, effectively asserting himself as the brand’s marquee star.

Oba Femi’s Size and Intensity Make Him a WWE Main Eventer

What Sold Me on Oba Femi

I still remember my first encounter with Oba Femi during NXT Battleground—the moment I realized the sheer talent he possessed. Admittedly, I hadn’t been following WWE or NXT closely, focusing instead on my own journey as a wrestling commentator. But a casual viewing party led me back into the world of wrestling, and what I witnessed was nothing short of jaw-dropping.

Femi’s raw intensity was captivating; he displayed a combination of power and skill that was rare to find in a wrestler. The sight of him effortlessly lifting two men at once left me utterly astonished. I remember exclaiming to my friends, “They need to elevate this guy right away!”Since then, I have been dedicated to tracking Femi’s career, constantly impressed by his ability to blend in-ring prowess with a natural charisma that shines through his promos.

Oba Femi Easily Could Be WWE’s Next Brock Lesnar

Booking a Main Roster Run

I’m hesitant to dictate how WWE should manage talent booking, as it’s a complex undertaking that requires deep knowledge and experience. Having engaged in discussions with several bookers and participated in writing meetings, I appreciate the intricacies involved in making creative decisions.

Nevertheless, I firmly believe that Oba Femi has all the elements necessary to be positioned as WWE’s Next Big Thing. His athleticism and intensity remind me of Brock Lesnar’s early days. If WWE presents him in a similar manner to how they introduced Brock, I have no doubt that fans would respond positively. Femi’s inherent strength and exceptional athletic ability make it easy for audiences to engage with him, much like they did with Lesnar, whose authenticity played a significant role in his rise as a superstar.

With Brock Lesnar’s reputation recently marred by controversies surrounding his connections to the McMahon scandal, the timing is ripe for WWE to consider a fresh face to carry the torch as their dominant athlete. Although Oba Femi may still be early in his career, he embodies the essence of a main eventer, and I firmly believe he can headline WrestleMania with the right support and opportunity.
