WWE Superstar reveals major injury following debut
This past few weeks have been a roller coaster for a recently debuted WWE Superstar. Unfortunately, the star has already sustained a significant injury.
WWE inked a developmental contract with Copeland Barbee, an amateur wrestler, in December. Although he had been a heavyweight at The Queens University of Charlotte, Barbee had previously competed under the name Lucky Ali on the independent circuit. In NXT, he adopted the ring name Saquon Shugars.
Shugars made his first appearance on television during the March 18 episode of NXT Level Up where he faced off against Tavion Heights. Despite putting on an impressive display, he ultimately fell short after a grueling five minutes of intense action.
Shugars recently posted on his X account, disclosing that he had endured an injury and may have to take some time off. He posted a picture of himself in a hospital, potentially following a treatment. Additionally, he displayed an MRI scan of his left knee, potentially indicating a previous injury.
“U n l u c k y,”Shugars wrote.
The exact timing of when Shugars sustained the injury is unknown, however, he has not competed in a match since his debut loss against Heights. At this time, he does not have a set timeline for his recovery and has not disclosed an official diagnosis.
WWE Signs Indie Trio Featuring Saquon Shugars in December Debut
In December, WWE added three independent wrestling sensations to their roster: Lucky Ali, Brogan Finlay, and Jay Malachi. These talented individuals joined the Performance Center in January and have since made their television appearances using their newly adopted ring names.
As previously stated, Ali adopted the ring name Saquon Shugars and made his debut against Tavion Heights on the March 19 episode of NXT Level Up. Uriah Connors, the son of Fit Finlay, also had his first televised match as Finlay at NXT Roadblock, where he suffered a defeat against Shawn Spears.
On February 6, Malachi, who was possibly the most talented among the three, had his first in-ring and televised appearance on NXT Level Up. He went by the name Je’Von Evans and was defeated by Brooks Jensen.
Connors and Shugars have yet to achieve their first televised victory, while Evans has already accomplished this feat against SCRYPTS on the March 6 episode of NXT Level Up.
