  • Lynch’s involvement adds substantial star power, promising to draw attention from her wrestling fanbase and beyond.

Hailed as one of the most enduring franchises in entertainment history, Star Trek is expanding with a forthcoming series, Star Trek: Starfleet Academy. Although a release date hasn’t been announced yet, this new installment is designed to reinvigorate the franchise. Positioned in the far future, it explores the aftermath of significant events depicted in Star Trek: Discovery, where Starfleet and the United Federation of Planets are on a journey of recovery.

The cast roster is noteworthy, including talents like Kerrice Brooks, Bella Shepard, George Hawkins, Sandro Rosta, Karim Diane, and Zoe Steiner. Notably, Academy leadership will be in the capable hands of Holly Hunter, while Paul Giamatti takes on the role of the antagonist. The series aims to deliver high-octane action, further enhanced by the casting of WWE superstar Becky Lynch.

Lynch announced her casting via a video on X, expressing her excitement: “You know, when you’ve already been champion of the world, there’s only one place to go next, and that’s to the stars. I’m so excited to share with all of you that I’m joining Star Trek: Starfleet Academy as part of the bridge crew. This has been the most amazing experience, acting alongside just a spectacular cast and crew, and I cannot wait for all of you to check it out when it comes out on Paramount Plus.”

Despite being on a break from WWE for over 200 days, Lynch’s dynamic presence is anticipated to resonate within the series. Her recent involvement in promoting WWE’s transition to Netflix next year suggests she will eventually return to the wrestling ring. Known for her remarkable character work in WWE, Lynch’s ability to craft compelling stories has endeared her to a broad fan base, enhancing her prospects in acting.

In addition to her wrestling accolades, Lynch has starred in various productions, including her portrayals as herself in the series Billions and as Cyndi Lauper in the NBC sitcom Young Rock. She has also lent her talents to two films from WWE Studios: The Marine 6: Close Quarters and the animated feature Rumble.

Becky Lynch’s casting in Star Trek: Starfleet Academy is generating considerable excitement and signals a promising direction for the show. While it’s too early to predict whether Lynch will reach the cinematic heights of fellow wrestling stars like Dwayne Johnson or John Cena, her track record indicates a propensity for success in her endeavors. Moreover, her involvement is expected to attract a substantial following from her wrestling career, boosting the show’s visibility and engagement.
