WWE legend knew Becky Lynch had “it” in 2016: “Leaving the Vince stuff out, the girl was willing to learn the business”
In the present day, Becky Lynch remains one of WWE’s top stars, regardless of gender. However, her early days in the company were far more modest. Dutch Mantell recently disclosed that he was immediately convinced of her star potential when he first laid eyes on her years ago.
Mantell’s time in WWE as Zeb Colter came to an end in 2016, coinciding with Becky Lynch’s promotion to the main roster.
WWE initiated the women’s revolution in the past, and Becky Lynch was one of the female stars from NXT who would ultimately inspire a new generation of performers.
During a recent podcast, Dutch Mantell shared his observations about Becky Lynch’s potential when he was leaving the WWE. He remembered noticing her enthusiasm for learning all aspects of the wrestling industry and her lack of concern about the way women had traditionally been portrayed under Vince McMahon.
As she climbed the ranks to become a main event superstar, Lynch made a point to stay out of trouble and engage with the “right guys”backstage, as noted by Dutch.
“Becky Lynch got there right when I was leaving WWE, and I could tell then she had it! It’s the way sometimes; it’s not what they do in the ring; it’s also what they do in presenting themselves outside the ring. Leaving all the Vince stuff out, the girl was willing to learn the business. Talking to the right guys, talking to them, she didn’t ruffle any feathers. That’s what newcomers should do; they should seek knowledge from everybody. I think Becky did a great job at that.”[1:01:58 – 1:02:37]
Dutch Mantell praises the evolution of women’s wrestling in the WWE
In the past year, women have headlined multiple shows, including premium live events, proving that the struggles they once faced to secure TV time are now a thing of the past.
The female stars are receiving the spotlight for their top storylines, a well-deserved recognition for their hard work behind the scenes to improve their skills. Dutch Mantell has observed that modern-era talents are dedicating themselves to intense training, following in the footsteps of Becky Lynch in their pursuit of constant improvement.
Dutch Mantell was most impressed by their determination to elevate their skills, as he elaborated:
“I think a lot of the girls are doing a good job of that now. When you watch the matches, they know what they are doing and when to do it because they are in a place now, a training center, it has a few flaws in it too, I think, but they are training everyday and that’s what I think they should do.”[1:02:38 onwards]
Becky Lynch is scheduled to compete against Rhea Ripley for the Women’s World Championship at WrestleMania 40. With Becky’s impressive history, there is a chance for a title change, although it will be a formidable task against The Eradicator, who has been portrayed as one of WWE’s top female champions.
