WWDC 2025: Apple AirPods Introduce Remote Control Functionality for iPhone and iPad

Apple Unveils Exciting Features for AirPods at WWDC 2025

During the much-anticipated Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) 2025, Apple showcased a host of innovations centered around its acclaimed wireless headphone lineup. Among the highlights was an impressive Liquid Glass design for its software ecosystem, but the real buzz revolved around new features enhancing the AirPods experience.

Enhanced Audio Capabilities

The latest updates to the AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4, and AirPods 4 with Active Noise Cancellation introduce studio-quality audio recording. This builds on last year’s Voice Isolation feature, empowering users and content creators to record high-fidelity audio for their projects.

Improved Voice Call Quality

In addition to audio recording enhancements, Apple has significantly upgraded voice call quality. These AirPods models now provide “more natural vocal texture and clarity”during FaceTime chats, CallKit-enabled applications, and traditional phone calls, ensuring crystal-clear communication.

Camera Control via AirPods

Building on existing functionality, the AirPods can now serve as a remote control for the iPhone’s camera. Users of the AirPods Pro 2, AirPods 4, and AirPods 4 ANC can easily snap photos or start/stop video recordings by pressing and holding the stem of their AirPods, making it more convenient to capture moments hands-free.

New Gesture Controls for Siri

Expanding their capabilities even further, AirPods now respond to head gestures for interacting with Siri. Users can nod for ‘yes’ or shake their heads for ‘no’, streamlining the overall experience of using Apple’s virtual assistant while simultaneously utilizing them for content creation.

“For users who like capturing themselves singing or dancing, the new features make it easy to perform in sync with a soundtrack while simultaneously recording the video, ”Apple stated in a recent announcement.

Availability and Future Updates

These innovative features are currently available for testing through the Apple Developer Program and are expected to enter public beta next month. A full rollout is anticipated later this year, coinciding with a firmware update that will accompany the release of iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26.
