Nian Suichang serves as a pivotal non-playable character (NPC) within Wuchang: Fallen Feathers. Although his storyline does not directly impact the game’s conclusion, he plays a significant role in assisting players during various boss encounters. Players can meet Nian from the early stages of the game all the way through to the final acts.
Nian’s ambition is straightforward: he seeks to establish himself as a formidable warrior wielding his one-handed sword. With your support, there is a genuine chance he may achieve his lofty aspirations.
To fully explore and conclude his quest, you will need to follow his trail across multiple locations throughout the game.
Nian’s First Encounter – Road to Shu Sanctum
Your journey begins on the path to Shu Sanctum, triggered after defeating the Master Raider boss located at Lightzen Temple. As you exit the temple toward the Sanctum, look for Nian, who is positioned under a tree along the side of the path.
Engage with Nian and exhaust all his dialogue options. In exchange, he will reward you with a whistle that functions similarly to the White Soapstone, allowing you to summon NPC allies for battles.
Nian’s Second Encounter – Shu Sanctum / Feathered Priest Boss Fight
Proceed along the pathway leading to Shu Sanctum, an essential safe haven in the game. Here, you will spot Nian by the Shrine, earnestly seeking a remedy for his brother’s ailment. His brother, Qiao Lin, can be encountered at Reverent Temple at the game’s beginning.
At the pinnacle of Shu Sanctum, confront the first boss for whom you can summon Nian: the Feathered Priest. Once victorious, you will acquire an item called Mercurial Blood. Present this item to Nian once he has returned to the Shrine.
Nian’s Third and Fourth Locations – The Reverent Temple
After you deliver the Mercurial Blood, Nian will return to the Reverent Temple to provide healing to his brother. Interact with him, and he will share the good news about Qiao Lin’s improvement.
After some progress in the storyline and defeating Commander Honglan, you will awaken again at the Reverent Temple. Venture out into the courtyard to meet Nian waiting by a locked door. Engage with him to continue advancing in his quest.
Nian’s Fifth Encounter – Hillswatch
Continue the main storyline until you reach Hillswatch, where Nian will reappear. He is situated along the main path and should be easy to locate. Upon speaking with him, he will describe having lost his way due to an altercation.
Proceed further up the hill to find his lost tattered pack amidst a cluster of enemies. Retrieve it and return to Nian, opting to return the Tattered Pack. You will encounter two choices: to expose him or to remain silent. Make sure to select the “Stay Silent”option to keep his questline alive; otherwise, it will end prematurely. You will also receive the Sorry Emote for choosing silence.
Nian’s Sixth Encounter – Rebel Camp
Advance towards the Rebel Camp in Cloudspire, navigating your way through the area until you reach the General of the North’s boss arena doors.
Nian will be standing just outside the boss fight area. Converse with him, and he will encourage you to summon him for the ensuing battle against the General of the North.
After the confrontation, exit the arena to find Nian seated at the same spot. A follow-up conversation will yield congratulations and an offer for a sparring match.
Nian’s Seventh Location – Refugee Camp
Nian will then transition to the Refugee Camp, located near Zhenwu Temple and one of the Inner Demon fight locations. When you interact with him here, you will again have the option to respond with “Nothing”or to “Stay Silent.”Select Stay Silent once more.
As you progress into the Avian Marsh, Nian will relocate to one of the locked doors in the Refugee Camp. To reach him, navigate through the Avian Marsh and follow the path upward from the Bo Sorcerer’s boss arena.
Nian’s Eighth and Ninth Encounters – Zhenwu Temple
Advance further into Zhenwu Temple and defeat the General of the South. Immediately afterward, you will find Nian waiting for you outside the Refugee Camp, along the walkway above the boss arena. He will prompt you to summon him again for the next challenge.
Proceed into the Fierce Tiger dungeon and summon Nian to assist once again. After this skirmish, he will appear to vanish for an interval.
Nian’s Tenth Encounter – Behind the Altar
As you navigate through the latter portion of the game in Cloudspire and defeat the formidable Perfect Pride boss, return to the Fierce Tiger arena. Journey down the hill into the bamboo grove where you can reunite with Nian once more.
Nian will share his plans to return to Worship’s Rise and will express a desire to spar with you, indicating his ongoing struggle for strength.
Nian’s Eleventh and Twelfth Encounters – Worship’s Rise in Ruins
At a certain stage, players can transition to a ruined state in the game. In this new realm, navigate to Shu Sanctum and take the route leading up to the statue that alleviates madness.
You will discover Nian sitting by the cliffside next to his brother’s remains. From Qiao Lin’s body, you will be able to collect the Sword of Exorcism item. Engaging in conversation with Nian will reveal the heartbreaking news that the cure failed, leading him to tears.
Descend the hill using the organic red bridge to access the Annalum Courtyard. Rest at the Shrine, then return to the previous cliffside where you encountered Nian.
You will find that Nian and his brother’s body have vanished, replaced by the Champion’s Armor Set he previously wore and the Zhanlu Sword.
To reach Nian’s ultimate location, return to the Annalum Courtyard. Head back to the Shrine and engage with the door of the nearby building. Each interaction with the door will elicit the sound of Nian’s weeping.
Nian will remain in this state until you complete the game and reset the world, allowing you to restart his quest.
