In Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, similar to many games within the Soulslike genre, players encounter a distinctive feature: the ability to choose the order in which they engage with the main bosses. While this level of autonomy in decision-making is intriguing, it can also create a sense of uncertainty, especially given the game’s challenging nature. How do you determine if your chosen boss order truly complements your current skills and progress?
To alleviate this concern, I have compiled a comprehensive list of the primary bosses in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, along with recommendations on who to fight first. Each choice is backed by explanations as to why I might deviate from the anticipated sequence at times.
Prepare your preferred weapon (preferably a longsword, let’s be real) and let’s embark on this boss-hunting adventure!
Be mindful: the following section contains potential spoilers. If you’re using this guide while progressing in the game, you might want to avoid jumping ahead to bosses you haven’t encountered yet.
While there are numerous adversaries in the game with boss-like health bars, many of them are relatively simple and mandatory during critical moments in your journey, making them unworthy of note here. I’ve also excluded a few optional NPC encounters as they vary based on player quests.
1. Master Raider – Man-Eating Dhutanga
Preparing For What’s to Come

The Man-Eating Dhutanga is your introductory challenge, found just past the Lightzen Temple Shrine in Worship’s Rise. As a crucial boss you cannot bypass, it must be your first target.
2. Feathered Priest – Lu Bingchang
Your First Summon Fight

As you progress, you can tackle either of the next two bosses first, presenting players with alternate paths. I recommend facing the Feathered Priest next. After reaching Shu Sanctum in Worship’s Rise, you’ll locate him confined on the top floor.
Utilize the bone whistle to summon an NPC ally for this encounter, which should help ease the challenge of this semi-difficult early-game battle.
Defeating the Feathered Priest clears the way to the basement of Shu Sanctum, although there’s no rush to proceed just yet.
3. Gluttonous Monstrosity – Lu Hongliu
Introduction to Beast Fights

Before delving further into your storyline, it’s advisable to engage the first optional boss: the Gluttonous Monstrosity, located near Shu Sanctum in the village just behind it and up a mountain.
To reach this boss, take the fallen tree shortcut from the Shu Sanctum’s second story. If you’ve unlocked that path, veer left and ascend right up a steep incline to find the boss arena behind a large doorway.
This boss exemplifies the classic beast-type battle familiar to Soulslike enthusiasts. While challenging, you may find this fight easier than the Feathered Priest, even without the assistance of an NPC.
4. Blightweaver – Great Centipede
The One With a Gimmick

Your next destination is the basement of Shu Sanctum, where you will navigate the mercury workshop. At the base of this corrupted area, you will discover a Shrine near Bandit Cave.
Blightweaver awaits just past this shrine as a required boss for your journey. Although initially intimidating, mastering the fight is achievable once you grasp the necessary strategy.
To defeat Blightweaver, lure it into striking the towering pillars within the arena. Each successful attack on a pillar will stun the centipede, giving you opportunities to reduce its health. Using a fire-imbued weapon can further enhance your chances of victory, thus clearing your path forward.
5. Reborn Treant – Soulwood
Magic Highly Recommended

As you near the climax of the game before options expand further, you’ll confront Soulwood at the terminus of the Doomwillow Beach area.
One significant challenge here is the lengthy return journey if you perish in battles, requiring a complete reset of the section. While the run is straightforward, proceed cautiously.
If equipped with decent magical abilities and the Vorpal Blade, maintain your position to the left of the arena to bombard Soulwood with your spells. This placement avoids its massive area-of-effect fire attacks, making this encounter manageable and unlocking the forthcoming progression route.
Note that the Doomwillow Beach Shrine serves as your first encounter with a Mimic, which will attack upon interaction unless preemptively struck.
6. Commander Honglan
The First Skill Check

As you progress through Tang Emperor’s Palace, Commander Honglan emerges as your first formidable challenge. Locate a Buddha statue at the area’s end beyond the Palace Hill Shrine, then place it in the nearby contraption to drain the palace’s water, revealing Honglan.
The game provides a parrying tutorial at this stage; heed its advice. Equip a weapon capable of parrying and counterattacks—ideally, a longsword with this ability—since you will need this for a successful encounter. Prepare for multiple attempts to learn her attack patterns and master the parry for victory, which may leave you disoriented but ultimately on the right path.
7. South General – Liu Wenxiu
Going Out of Order

At this stage, your path choices are more varied. Four bosses become accessible; South General in Zhenwu Temple is my recommended option. However, the Zhenwu Temple presents the most complex challenges at this point—a situation I see as beneficial.
Every boss you face now is likely to be formidable, but within Zhenwu Temple, you can acquire the spell Ethereal Form near the Zhenwu Antechamber Shrine. This powerful spell enhances your defense and evasion, fundamentally improving your chances against future bosses.
While navigating Zhenwu Temple might be daunting at this early stage, overcoming these hurdles to secure Ethereal Form makes the struggle worthwhile. I believe the South General is the least difficult boss available, so tackling him post-acquisition is advisable.
Following this fight, you will have options for progress, but we will explore additional bosses that you may have bypassed.
8. General of the North – Ai Nengqi
Optional, But Worth It

It is time to revisit Cloudspire, likely where players naturally gravitate if venturing without a guide. The General of the North awaits you right beneath the Rebel Camp Shrine.
Be prepared—this encounter lacks an introduction cutscene, thrusting you directly into battle upon entry.
This fight is optional but enjoyable—especially if you’ve unlocked the Ethereal Form from Zhenwu Temple. Additionally, the General’s resemblance to the Cookie Monster adds a layer of humor, making the confrontation less intimidating.
9. Ming General – Liu Cheng’en
The Gateway to Snowfall Palace

To continue the storyline, you need to defeat Ming General, who stands sentinel at the entryway to Snowfall Palace. Gaining access to the castle requires you to vanquish the General of the North, among other potential methods, like lighting beacons around Cloudspire Outskirts.
Regardless of how you breach the gates, Ming General must fall for your progress to continue. Utilizing parries can be effective, though baiting his jump attacks and swiftly circling behind for a charged backstab is often the most straightforward approach.
Upon victory, you’ll arrive at a shrine within the boss arena, conveniently located adjacent to your next story destination. However, let’s take a few more detours before we proceed further.
10. Bo Sorcerer
A Little Help From Your Friend

Although the Bo Sorcerer is technically optional, defeating her plays a crucial role in advancing the White-Robed Elder’s NPC quest, a storyline component not to be missed. Nestled at the summit of the Avian Marsh, this encounter—though also situated in the Mt. Zhenwu region—feels distinctly different from Zhenwu Temple.
You can engage Bo Sorcerer right after Commander Honglan, but as the most challenging of the four bosses available to you at this point, it’s wise to save her for last.
Remember, you can summon assistance for this fight if you have followed the White Robed Elder’s quest line diligently. This ally can significantly ease the battle.
