Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, a title rich in Soulslike traditions, presents players with numerous non-playable characters (NPCs) and their intricate questlines. To maximize your gaming experience, engaging with each NPC is essential, as their quests not only offer valuable rewards but also provide crucial assistance in challenging battles.
Many of the toughest boss encounters can be significantly eased with the help of NPCs like Nian Suichang and the Storyteller. Knowing how and where to summon these allies is key to overcoming difficult obstacles in your journey.
Summoning NPCs in Wuchang: Fallen Feathers

Each NPC eligible for summoning has specific requirements that must be satisfied before you can call upon them in a boss fight. This typically involves completing their questlines and answering their queries accurately.
To summon an NPC, utilize the Bone Whistle, a key item received from Nian Suichang after defeating the Master Raider and meeting him en route to Shu Sanctum. Exhaust his dialogue to receive the whistle. If you misplace or sell the Bone Whistle, you can buy a replacement from Tao Qing at Shu Sanctum or the Refugee Camp for 500 Red Mercury.
Remember, the Bone Whistle is effective solely within the confines of a boss arena. Thus, strategic timing when summoning an NPC amid the chaos of a boss fight is crucial for success.
Nian Suichang’s Summons

Nian Suichang is unique as he can assist in multiple boss battles, starting with the Feathered Priest encounter located atop Shu Sanctum. To summon Nian for this specific fight, you must first deplete his dialogue during your inaugural meeting, then engage with him at the Shrine in Shu Sanctum. Once these prerequisites are met, he will respond to your whistle call in battle.

The next boss that Nian can lend his aid against is the General of the North in the Rebel Camp within Cloudspire. Prior to summoning him, ensure you complete his quest to Hillswatch, return his pack, and maintain silence during the interaction. Failure to do so will hinder your ability to summon him in this or any subsequent boss encounters.

For the final showdown involving Nian, you can summon him during the Fierce Tiger battle located at the Zhenwu Temple. Ensure you progress through Nian’s quest without any further questions, allowing you to efficiently summon him. It’s advisable to wait until the second phase of the Tyrant’s battle to call for his support, as he may otherwise fall quickly during the initial phase.
Huang Jian’e’s Summon

If you decide against pursuing Nian’s quest, you can opt for Huang Jian’e’s journey. Her questline spans across Cloudspire, culminating in Zhenwu Temple. Upon reaching Zhenwu, you will discover Huang meditating in the stairwell, indicating that she is ready to assist in your next battle. Many players prefer her support against the Fierce Tiger due to her reliability and the additional reward of her armor set post-battle.
White-Robed Elder Summon

The White-Robed Elder, important for the Bo Sorcerer encounter, appears at various points before the fight. Engage with him at Shu Sanctum, Cloudspire Outskirts, the Refugee Camp, and Avian Marsh. You must agree to assist him against the monster; otherwise, he won’t be summonable. When in the boss arena, position yourself close to a large tree to use the Bone Whistle effectively, as it can disrupt the boss’s focus.
He Youzai’s Summon

To aid in the Monstrous Toddler boss encounter at the Bai Mansion, summon your trustworthy companion, He Youzai. He can be found throughout the game, and you don’t have to adhere to a strict path to obtain his assistance. Simply interact with him in preceding areas, and he will agree to join you in the fight.
Xuanyangzi’s Summon

As you approach the game’s climax, you have the opportunity to summon Xuanyangzi for the battle against The Reborn. You must follow his questline and provide him with the Jade Ancient Chisel; failing to do so will render him unavailable for the fight. A beneficial aspect of this summon is the ample wind-up time the boss provides, allowing you to utilize the Bone Whistle without disruption.
Note that giving Xuanyangzi the Jade Ancient Chisel restricts you to a particular ending, so consider this decision carefully before proceeding to fight The Reborn solo.
The Storyteller/Duryal Summon

The final NPC summon for the climactic encounter against Feathery Ambition involves the Storyteller, also known as Duryal. Completing his questline, where you agree to help him take down the Bo Magus during your time in Annalum, is a prerequisite for accessing this summon during the last battle.
Interestingly, you only need to express your willingness to assist, as you are not obligated to defeat the Bo Magus. Upon reaching the Bo Capital and speaking with Duryal, he will then become an ally in your fight against Feathery Ambition. Be cautious, as his phase transition often leads to his swift defeat; it is advisable to wait until the transition occurs before summoning him.
