The captivating world of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers introduces an array of challenging bosses, among which Bai Kru stands out as a significant figure in the narrative. Players are granted a chance to revisit this engaging confrontation later in the story, adding an element of closure to the protagonist’s journey.
One of the more formidable adversaries players will face is the Monstrous Toddler. With its extensive health pool, powerful grabbing moves, and a flurry of ferocious attacks, this boss requires strategic preparation to defeat successfully. Below is a comprehensive guide to help you overcome this daunting opponent.
Locating Monstrous Toddler Bai Kru

Your initial encounter with Bai Kru occurs early in the game as a “tutorial”boss. After leaving the Reverent Temple in Worship’s Rise, you will meet the Boatman, who leads you to this challenging encounter.
It’s common to struggle during this first battle, which is completely acceptable. Players can engage Bai Kru again later by pursuing He Youzai’s questline, a crucial component of the main storyline. As you progress, He Youzai will guide you on how to reach Bai Mansion after completing Zhenwu Temple, where you must defeat both South General Liu Wenxiu and Fierce Tiger.

Upon reaching the Ferry Overlook, descend the hill to encounter the Boatman once more. He will acknowledge your quest for vengeance before offering you passage across the lake. This journey is accompanied by a reflective cutscene, seamlessly transitioning you to Bai Mansion.
Inside Bai Mansion, you won’t face any enemies apart from Bai Kru himself. Explore the estate to uncover items like the Demonbane Strike spell and the Broken Belled Wheel key item, which provide insight into Wuchang’s backstory. Additionally, He Youzai will be present to assist you during this pivotal battle.
Take a left turn through the cave opening, where you will hear Bai Kru’s ominous roar, and witness the Plain Warrioress, who seems to mourn impending conflict. Examine an item to obtain the Imperial Guard Token, which will aid in future quests. Continuing through the cave triggers a cutscene, signaling the start of your climactic battle with Bai Kru.
Preparing for the Fight Against Monstrous Toddler Bai Kru

Here’s the setup I utilized in my initial confrontation with Bai Kru:
Weapon | Lashing Whip |
---|---|
Armor | South General’s Helmet |
South General’s Robes | |
South General’s Vambraces | |
South General’s Boots | |
Jade Pendants | Dracolich Pendant |
Tiger Pendant | |
Fiend-Felling Pendant | |
Spells | Ethereal Form |
(ANY) | |
(ANY) | |
(ANY) | |
Items | Manna Vase |
Temperance | |
Bone Whistle | |
(ANY) | |
Temperance Needle | (ANY) |
Notable Impetus Repository Perks | Sword Saint, Windforce |
Bai Kru does not have known elemental resistances, nor does he impose specific status effects. His main challenge lies in his substantial health and relentless attacking patterns.
To counter his assault, equip armor that provides protection against physical attacks, as Bai Kru primarily inflicts slashing and blunt damage. Consider using armor sets such as Dhutanga’s Armor, the default Pirate Armor, or the Snowfall Palace Guard Armor for effective damage reduction.
While I advocate for the merits of the Sword Counter skill, the lengthy boss battles against adversaries like Bai Kru, who forgo melee weapons, present an opportunity to experiment with any discipline skill of your choice. Whether you go for Blink Kick or other acrobatic maneuvers like Crescent Moon, the decision rests with you.

Alternatively, a magic build is also a viable option, as Bai Kru appears vulnerable to magic and feathering damage. However, wielding strong spells can expose you to counterattacks, which is why I urge the longsword build for its balanced defensive and offensive capabilities.
No matter the build you select, Ethereal Form is essential for any boss encounter, including Bai Kru. This powerful spell offers a brief period of invincibility, costing only one stack of Skyborn Might and replenishing a stack for each evaded hit.

You can find the Ethereal Form spell located within Zhenwu Temple, positioned near two cannons on the temple’s left side.
Ensure you bring Manna Vases along with Temperance for amplified damage, and the Bone Whistle to summon He Youzai for assistance. This strategy allows for an open slot for any additional consumables you want, like extra healing items or a Lantern Fruit for stamina recovery.
In my encounter with Bai Kru, I favored a longsword build, focusing on Benedictions to enhance stamina regeneration and survivability, paired with Jade Pendants like the Tiger Pendant to boost damage output.
Due to Bai Kru’s massive size, utilizing pendants such as Fiend-Felling and Dracolich can significantly increase your effectiveness during the fight by enabling additional damage and preventing stun effects from his roar.
Understanding Bai Kru’s Moveset
First Phase Attacks

Bai Kru’s attack patterns are straightforward—he generally begins the confrontation with a predictable leap towards you, which, while dealing heavy damage, is easily dodged with proper timing.
His standard attack rotation consists of three claw slams. He can perform these attacks with either one hand or both, potentially leading to a devastating follow-up slam into the ground.
Occasionally, Bai Kru will execute backflips to create distance, which also inflict minor damage as he lands.

Additionally, this towering boss can unleash a concentrated jet of liquid in either a horizontal or vertical direction—a move that can deal lingering damage, so stay alert.

Bai Kru can also perform a grab attack, identifiable by a specific audio cue and telegraphed movement where he lunges forward as if to embrace you. Additionally, his roar can stun you unless you manage to button-mash your way out of it.
His attack patterns share similarities with those of the Gluttonous Monstrosity, though Bai Kru delivers these with increased ferocity and a penchant for leaping assaults.
Second Phase Attacks

Upon reducing Bai Kru’s health to half, expect a swell in the intensity of the music as he escalates his offensive frequency.
Although his overall moveset remains consistent, he will introduce additional attacks during this phase, including tentacles that emerge from his chest during roars, causing damage in a surrounding radius, and the ability to unleash a powerful air blast.
Fighting Bai Kru at the Reverent Temple
As previously noted, players have the chance to fight Bai Kru early by speaking with the Boatman near the Reverent Temple. Despite being tough at the start, it’s feasible to defeat him—even with a new save file.
It’s worth mentioning that defeating Bai Kru in NG+ and later difficulty settings is considerably easier, as his health and moveset are reduced, allowing for a quicker victory after your initial encounter.
Strategies for Defeating Bai Kru

Engaging Bai Kru can be a surprisingly enjoyable experience, as his attack patterns are straightforward and well-telegraphed, demanding endurance over complexity. Players can choose to tackle him solo or summon He Youzai to provide supportive firepower during the encounter.
The most effective strategy against Bai Kru is to maneuver around his sides and rear, as his frontal attacks are predominantly focused forward, lacking spinning moves like those of the Blightweaver.

Utilizing a longsword build encourages aggressive engagement. Start by landing the second hit of your light attack combo to gain a stack of Skyborn Might, enabling you to activate Ethereal Form and become ghost-like in the face of danger.
This temporary invincibility period allows you to evade damage while launching counterattacks, building up additional Skyborn Might stacks in the process. Establish a rhythm of attacks and dodging: one-two, dodge, one-two, dodge, and so forth.

By maintaining this rhythm, you’ll steadily lower Bai Kru’s stagger meter, leading to moments when you can execute Obliterate attacks targeted at his head when he’s down.
Stay consistent with this strategy, and you’ll emerge victorious against Bai Kru with moderate effort.
Rewards for Defeating Bai Kru

Should you conquer Bai Kru early in the game, you will earn five bonus Red Mercury Essences to enhance your skill trees, along with commendations from the Boatman himself.
Defeating Bai Kru at the Bai Mansion rewards players with the following:
- Ivory Seal – A key item to exchange with Tao Qing for new items.
- Research Journal – Scrap 2 – A necessary item to present to He Youzai for quest progression.
- Echo of Bai Kru – A short-range spell that allows you to leap back while emitting a stream of water, costing three stacks of Skyborn Might.
