In the challenging realm of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, players encounter a diverse roster of formidable bosses. Among these, human bosses like Liu Wenxiu, the South General of the Rebel Forces against the Ming Empire, stand out as particularly threatening adversaries. Liu wields the powers of lightning and gunpowder, allowing him to execute swift attacks that can catch even the most vigilant players off guard.
This guide provides in-depth details on Liu Wenxiu’s attack patterns, essential preparations for the battle, and effective strategies to secure your victory.
Location of South General – Liu Wenxiu

Liu Wenxiu can be located at Mt. Zhenwu, specifically to the right side of Zhenwu Temple when facing the structure. The nearest shrine is the Zhenwu Antechamber. Ensure that the doors behind the shrine are open for easier access; if not, a little exploration within Zhenwu Temple is advisable.Watch out for the despairing enemies roaming this area.
From the shrine, proceed past the statue and turn right through a gate. You will spot some bird monsters engaged in battle with rebel soldiers. You can avoid unnecessary combat by letting them fight it out while you ascend the staircase and take the left path.
Continue climbing until you arrive at a set of unassuming doors flanked by two lion statues. Activate the prompt to “open, ”which will lead into a courtyard where the boss fight commences. If you have faced him before, you may have the option to “brave the mist.”

Given Liu Wenxiu’s affinity for lightning and precision attacks, arriving well-prepared is essential. Keep Stormward pills ready to counter the Paralysis status effect, which may hinder your combat effectiveness.
From my encounters, I highly suggest utilizing a focus on Sword Counter in your Discipline setup, as this will enhance your parrying capabilities against his longsword strikes. The parry window is generously timed, allowing for better defense.
For my personal build, I opted for the Lashing Whip, as it outperforms Cloudfrost’s Edge in stats, particularly leveraging your Strength and Agility effectively.
Utilize Temperance needles for added Strength or Agility boosts. Consider including a Bone Needle for elemental damage, although it may not be necessary unless you’re concerned about your damage output.
The same logic applies to Benedictions and Jade Pendants. Prioritize maximizing your physical attack potential while ensuring sufficient healing and damage reduction options.
With my focus on swordplay, I mainly used the longsword, emphasizing precise parries and efficient attack combinations.

While predominantly emphasizing sword skills, support spells like Divine Might and Divine Ward can provide significant advantages to ensure both attack power and durability against Liu’s onslaught.
If you find predicting his attacks challenging, I recommend the powerful spell Ethereal Form: this will provide an automatic dodge, grant invisibility, and replenish a Skyborn Might stack whenever you evade an enemy attack. This spell functions similarly to the Evasive Maneuver skill available with the Darkfrost Edge one-handed sword.
You can obtain Ethereal Form within Zhenwu Temple, located on a corpse near the cannons on the left side. The Zhenwu Antechamber serves as the nearest shrine.
Understanding the South General’s Moveset

The South General’s attack repertoire is relatively straightforward. He leverages sword combos, discharges lightning bolts, and uses a firearm for ranged combat. Though his sword techniques are easy to anticipate, successful timing during parries is critical.

At the start of the encounter, Liu imbues his sword with lightning, launching a swipe that releases three lightning bolts simultaneously. He can also perform this action in a straight line up to three times. Thankfully, the bolts move slowly and are straightforward to dodge.

When in close range, Liu may initiate a three-hit combo that can be enhanced with lightning. His mobility allows him to maneuver quickly around you, appearing to strike from multiple angles.
It is critical to remain vigilant even when you believe you’re beyond the reach of his sword, as he can perform thrust attacks or create a devastating lightning blast.
At a distance, he may opt to draw his rifle and shoot up to three rounds at you.

Moreover, he possesses a unique ability to transform into a storm cloud, dive-bombing to summon bolts of lightning upon landing.
One of the most challenging maneuvers lies in his dash attack; despite being relatively easy to predict, misjudging parry timing can leave you vulnerable to a lengthy stun.
Strategies for Defeating Liu Wenxiu

The tactics employed against Commander Honglan will serve you well in this duel against Liu Wenxiu, as both share similar behaviors and parryable attacks.
Nonetheless, battling the South General feels more manageable, as successful counterattacks can incapacitate him, opening opportunities for significant damage.
Any of his physical attacks, including those with his sword or gun, can be parried; however, it’s essential to note that his lightning bolts are not parryable.

Adopting a measured approach is crucial; anticipate parrying his attacks to land stun opportunities. While backstabbing for an Obliterate attack can deal crushing damage, Liu’s agility presents significant challenges in executing this connection.
Maintain composure, avoid rushing towards him, and instead let him advance before successfully executing your parries against his sword strikes.
Ethereal Form stands out as a critical spell for this fight, serving as an efficient panic mechanism. With the activation cost of just one Skyborn Might stack, this spell allows for automatic dodges of all incoming attacks for three seconds.

Additionally, each dodged attack replenishes one Skyborn Might stack, enabling you to keep reactivating the spell for continuous evasion.
Taking a page from encounters with the Bo Sorcerer, consider utilizing objects in the environment for additional cover during intense moments, providing that much-needed breathing space.
In summary, approach this boss battle as you would in titles like For Honor or Sekiro: draw your enemy in, parry their attacks, and unleash your counterattacks decisively.
