In the thrilling world of Wuchang: Fallen Feathers, players are treated to an array of exciting boss battles. Drawing heavily from the renowned Soulsborne series, the game features unique regions like Cloudspire, where the formidable Ming General awaits.
Similar to the encounter with Commander Honglan in the Tang Emperor’s Palace, the battle against Ming General is an essential part of the game. Players can easily become lost in the snow-covered terrain of Cloudspire while attempting to locate his arena, but fear not—this guide will navigate you through this challenge.
How to Locate Ming General

Prerequisite: Before facing Ming General, you must lower the central bridge leading into Cloudspire City. This can be accomplished either by defeating the General of the North or by igniting three beacons located in different towers connected to cursed tombs filled with respawning enemies.
Once the bridge is lowered, reaching Ming General’s arena may pose a challenge due to the labyrinthine design of Cloudspire’s outskirts. Let’s simplify the journey.
Begin at the Rebel Camp Shrine. Drop down to the area with the cannons and proceed right alongside the patrolling brute. Keep an eye out for foes and an unlockable door on your left. Make sure to open this door as you move forward.

Continue through the area until you spot a couple of minor enemies chatting with a patrolling guard.Beyond them lies a central chamber featuring oil jars at its core.
From this vantage point, you can see the bridge you previously lowered, which you will need for the fight against Ming General.Be wary of the mines scattered around and the brute that operates the nearby cannon.
Before heading straight into combat, consider unlocking a shortcut from the right path indicated in the image above. This shortcut leads back to the Cloudspire Outskirts shrine, facilitating quicker access to the boss battle when needed.
Optimal Build for Ming General

Ming General employs two different weapons during the fight, allowing for both blocks and deflections. Thus, I’ll recommend using the reliable Longsword for this encounter. This choice allows players to utilize the Sword Counter skill effectively to fend off Ming’s onslaughts.
In this instance, the Lashing Whip Longsword is ideal due to its extended range and balanced scaling in Strength and Agility.
It’s highly advisable to avoid activating the counterattack node with the Sword Counter skill. In Ming’s second phase, he tends to follow up his sword strikes with a devastating grab attack that connects if you are caught in the counterattack animation.
While it’s not crucial, my choice of Pendants leans towards defensive options: the Gourd Pendant and two stamina-enhancing items—the Dragon-Fish and Twin Infant Pendant—serve well in this battle.
For Benedictions, personalize it based on your playstyle; however, universally effective options include Wei – Combo Force for boosted damage after consecutive hits and Ren – Skyborn Vigor for quicker stamina recovery.
Finally, bring along the Sapphire Lotus Seed, as using it frequently will help counter the frostbite attacks that Cheng’en unleashes during the fight.
Ming General’s Moveset

To help you prepare further, here’s a breakdown of Ming General’s major attacks, highlighting their behaviors and how to strategize against them:
Attack | Description |
---|---|
Jumping Glaive Stomps | Initiated at the start of battle. Ming performs three jumping glaive attacks, the third of which has a slight delay—allowing for a punished backstab after evasion. |
Standard Combo | A quick succession of 3 to 4 glaive strikes that may require precise evasion due to reach, but it’s easily deflectable. |
Thrusting Combo | A stabbing attack sequence that can also be deflected, leveraging the Sword Counter skill effectively. |
Whirlwind | This second phase move creates an AoE attack swinging from Ming’s glaive. Evade when health is half to avoid the icicle whirlwind. |
Jumping Slash | Leap attack followed by a spinning slash requires perfect evasion. |
Diagonal Spinning Slashes | Multiple diagonal slashes that can be dodged if at a safe distance. |
Grab Attack | Ming signals this move with an audio cue; he lunges forward with a staggering kick that, if caught, will deliver significant damage. |
Icicle Shards | Summons ice orbs to explode, offering an area denial that needs careful timing to evade. |
Footstomp Slashes | A stomp followed by spinning slashes that can inflict frostbite quickly. |
Jumping Sword Slash | A single leap followed by a downward sword cut, challenging players to time their evasion with precision. |
Strategies to Overcome Ming General
Phase One Strategy
Your strategy should begin by activating your temperance before the fight. Utilizing the default Bone Needle that adds fire damage will boost your effectiveness during the battle.

Ming General can exhibit aggressive behavior throughout both phases of combat; therefore, play cautiously, similar to your encounter with Honglan. If you manage to skillfully deflect his spear attacks, you will neutralize his offensive plays effectively.
Land some hits while maintaining distance to better predict his movements. Remember: the more adept you are at parrying and attacking, the quicker you will progress through this phase.
Phase Two Strategy

The second phase kicks off with the whirlwind attack, as Ming jumps toward you wielding his sword.Be particularly cautious of the rapid slashes which can severely deplete your health and potentially inflict frostbite.
Should this occur, retreat to gain some distance and heal, or consume a Sapphire Lotus Seed to mitigate frostbite’s effects.Avoid taking hits, as the frostbite condition halves your stamina, a significant disadvantage in this decisive encounter.
As you enter the mid-second phase, if equipped with a skill granting two charges of Temperance, ensure you activate it to once again enhance your weapon damage.
Overall, your strategy remains consistent; success relies significantly on your evasion and deflection skills. Due to the nature of Ming’s arena and combat mechanics, I advise against utilizing spells in this confrontation.

Beware of his grab attack, which can be lethal, especially on NG+.I must reiterate: disable the counterattack node. I faced numerous deaths due to Wuchang remaining locked in a counterattack animation while Ming executed his grab attack.
