A recent unexpected malfunction within the World of Warcraft Classic Anniversary Realm’s latest update has led to an influx of Season of Discovery characters appearing in PvP Battlegrounds. Once the issue was identified, Blizzard acted swiftly to disable the feature. However, in the interim, players experienced chaotic encounters as these enhanced characters dominated various World of Warcraft Classic realms.
The Anniversary Realms introduced their Phase 2 update in two stages, with the first segment released on January 9. This included the addition of the PvP Honor system, the formidable Azuregos and Kazzak world bosses, and the Dire Maul dungeon—the latter igniting significant debate among members of the Hardcore streamer guild, OnlyFangs. The follow-up update arrived on January 16 at 2 PM PST, marking the debut of the iconic Warsong Gulch and Alterac Valley Battlegrounds.
Glitch in WoW Classic Anniversary Realms Battlegrounds

This glitch is particularly significant due to the stark power imbalance between Season of Discovery characters and their Classic Fresh counterparts. The Season of Discovery realm allows players to utilize Rune Engravings—potent abilities that substantially enhance character performance. Additionally, these players have had over a year to amass gear, often donning complete Tier 2 sets, while players in Classic Fresh have only had slightly over a month to progress through iconic raids like Molten Core and Onyxia’s Lair.
The rapid emergence of Season of Discovery characters led to entertaining, albeit disruptive, interactions during their brief appearance in Battlegrounds. Reports flooded in detailing instances where these overpowered characters effortlessly eliminated groups of Classic Fresh players. Some wielded items that never existed in the original game, such as the Void-Touched weapons referenced by the enigmatic Shadowy Figure in experimental realms. As a result, the community hopes Blizzard will promptly rectify this situation, allowing players to remember it as a humorous glitch instead of a destabilizing bug.
As we look ahead, World of Warcraft Classic Season of Discovery is set to launch Phase 7 on January 28, bringing with it new content including the highly anticipated Karazhan Crypts dungeon and the Scourge Invasions event. The community can only hope this upcoming update avoids any similar glitches that plague the Anniversary realms.
