Following the excitement generated by the premiere of Love is Blind Season 7 in the United States earlier this month, fans were treated to even more drama with the introduction of Love is Blind Habibi, the Middle Eastern adaptation of the hit dating series, which launched on Netflix on October 10.
Among the featured couples, Nour and Mido made a connection in the pods and proceeded to a luxurious vacation in Dubai. However, their relationship encountered challenges due to contrasting personalities. Nour’s views on feminism have sparked considerable discussion online.
During a confession in the first episode, Nour expressed her frustration with feminism, stating that it has negatively impacted her outlook. She articulated her belief that women should focus on maintaining their roles as dependent partners, contrary to the feminist ideology which asserts that women must work and support themselves.
Following her comments, viewers of Love is Blind Habibi took to X to voice their disapproval of Nour’s views.
“Nour claims that feminists ruined it for her? The same feminism that has enabled her to pursue a modeling career? How ironic,”commented one user.
“Nour expressing disdain for feminism… how can one be so out of touch?”added another.
“While watching Love is Blind, Habibi, it’s bizarre to hear a model discuss her dislike for feminism. She owes her fashion choices and this appearance to empowerment movements, doesn’t she?”noted a third critic.
“Nour suggests that feminists have harmed women because we can now earn our own living? Quite the paradox for someone evidently privileged,”criticized another fan.
Viewers critiqued Nour’s perspective, emphasizing that her current lifestyle would not have been possible without the feminist movements that advocate for women’s rights.
“All the men on #LoveIsBlindHabibi agreed not to fully support their future wives financially. This is why feminism is crucial. No one should experience financial oppression. Nour is a perfect example of misunderstanding feminism,”wrote a user on X.
“This contestant from Love is Blind Habibi said feminists ruined everything for us. Are you serious?!”added another user.
“I recall participating in discussions against feminism, much like Nour. Thankfully, I was young and unaware. But come on, you’re nearly 30!”commented someone else.
“It’s perplexing to see women denounce feminism, which has significantly benefitted them. But maybe I should hold my tongue,”wrote another user.
What Prompted Nour’s Statements in Episode 1 of Love is Blind Habibi?
Initially, Nour entered the pods alongside Mido, her eventual fiancé in Love is Blind Habibi. Mido complimented her voice and probed her about her career, leading to a playful exchange.
Nour jokingly inquired if he was conducting a job interview, to which he responded with laughter.
In jest, she suggested she could provide him with her resume. Mido, however, clarified he was genuinely interested and pointed out that some models might prioritize their careers over personal relationships, which could lead to arrogance due to their allure.
Mido pressed for more details about her job and asked if she held photo shoots regularly, to which Nour replied negatively, asserting that she maintained strict criteria when accepting jobs.
During a confessional moment post-date, Nour expressed that due to her modeling career, her available time for dating was limited. She stated that she believed in traditional values where the man plays the role of the provider.
Ultimately, Nour stated that feminists had complicated her experience by pushing for female independence, which contradicted her beliefs.
She confided to fellow contestants that she preferred her dates to be more upscale, declaring that she wouldn’t engage in spontaneous coffee or casual dates; instead, she expected her partner to book fine dining experiences.
As the series progressed, episode 5 revealed Mido departing from Nour, citing her lack of attention as she spent excessive time in her room on hair and makeup.
The full series of Love is Blind Habibi, comprising nine episodes, is now available for streaming on Netflix.
