However, the storyline takes an unexpected turn, enriching Wonder Woman’s background through a significant flashback involving her mother, Circe.
This flashback reveals a critical encounter between Circe and the goddess Hecate, who sheds light on Diana’s destined greatness and suggests that Circe will play a vital role in shaping her journey. Through Circe’s inner thoughts, we learn that she starts receiving prophetic visions of Diana’s future, portraying her immense influence, the struggles she would face, and her indomitable spirit. Inspired by these insights, Circe creates Diana’s inaugural lasso, constructed from “love and pain, magic and fire, ” and named it θυεία, which translates to “sacrifice.”
Circe’s mention of this as Diana’s “first lasso”raises intriguing questions about the existence of others. Since the Nemesis Lasso is currently the only one in Wonder Woman’s arsenal, it’s reasonable to conclude that both θυεία and the Nemesis Lasso may refer to the same weapon unless clarified otherwise.
