In a recent episode of the Kinda Funny Games podcast, Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier detailed the circumstances surrounding this unforgiving outcome. He pointed out that significant missteps by David Haddad, the former head of WB Games, greatly hindered the development of Wonder Woman. Haddad’s decision to shut down a new intellectual property from Monolith resulted in the departure of several key directors, creating turmoil as the studio attempted to rebuild amid ongoing work on the Wonder Woman project.
Originally, the Wonder Woman game was intended to incorporate the innovative Nemesis system from Shadow of Mordor. However, following the studio’s reboot, the focus shifted to a more linear action style reminiscent of the God of War franchise.“But by then, it was kind of too late, ” cited Schreier, alluding to the unfavorable trajectory that WB Games faced over the past year.
Schreier elaborated on the financial ramifications faced by the company, noting that the failure of Suicide Squad was particularly staggering, resulting in a $200 million write-off. In addition, other titles, including MultiVersus and Quidditch Champions, contributed to another $100 million in losses.
