Wolverine Creative Director from PlayStation Joins Xbox’s Perfect Dark Team
Years after their initial announcements, both Perfect Dark for Xbox and Wolverine for PlayStation remain without specified release dates. Recent shifts in leadership within the development teams have come to light, particularly with the news that the creative director of Wolverine has transitioned to work on Perfect Dark.
In an official statement to Game File, Sony disclosed that Brian Horton has departed from his position at Insomniac, the studio developing the Marvel superhero game. His previous accolades include serving as the creative director on Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales, as well as directing Rise of the Tomb Raider during his tenure at Crystal Dynamics.
An Xbox representative informed Game File that Horton has joined The Initiative, where he will apply his vast experience to revitalize the classic Perfect Dark franchise. This collaboration also involves Square Enix, allowing Horton to reconnect with former colleagues from Crystal Dynamics.
While Sony has not publicly detailed the reasons behind Horton’s departure from Insomniac, sources mentioned to Game File that creative differences regarding the vision for Wolverine contributed to the leadership adjustments.
In terms of new leadership for Wolverine, Marcus Smith has been appointed as the creative director, with Mike Daly stepping in as the game director. Both have previously held these roles on Insomniac’s Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and have been involved with the studio’s Spider-Man series. Cameron Christian, who was the former game director, will now occupy a different role within the company.
After a prolonged absence from the spotlight, Perfect Dark finally unveiled a gameplay trailer earlier this year, presenting the stealth-action immersive sim for the first time. The game is slated for release on PC and Xbox Series X|S consoles and will also be available through Xbox Game Pass. In contrast, gameplay footage of Wolverine remains elusive, with speculation suggesting a launch target in 2026.
