CELEBRATING 400 ISSUES OF WOLVERINE WITH THE FIGHT OF HIS LIFE! Don’t miss a massive milestone as Wolverine takes on the Adamantine and confronts a specter from his past. An epic adventure begins here!

Marvel Communications recently confirmed that Wolverine #400 will feature two narratives crafted by Saladin Ahmed and illustrated by Martín Cóccolo. One of these stories continues Logan’s battle against the Adamantine, while the other teases a “surprise return from Logan’s past.” Additionally, a third tale by Daniel Warren Johnson will honor Wolverine’s extensive legacy within the Marvel comics universe, marking his 400th solo comic issue since his first appearance. Marvel has also unveiled striking variant covers from renowned artists Andy Kubert and Jerome Opeña. Comments from Ahmed highlight:

A big anniversary issue is always a great excuse to go crazy with reveals and unveilings, and we’ve taken that to heart here! In this oversized issue, an old enemy drives Logan’s new pupil the Wendigo to the brink. Logan finally encounters the mysterious entity known as the Adamantine, and a stunning new family revelation plants the seeds for the next chaotic chapter of Logan’s life.

Wolverine Is Entering an Era of Truly Personal Villains

Romulus and Ogun Would Represent Major Returns for Logan

Wolverine Villains Romulus and Ogun

Cover art by Martín Cóccolo hints at the resurgence of significant characters from Wolverine’s storied history. While certain villains appear to be under the influence of the Adamantine, others are long-awaited foes primed for revival. Notably, Ogun—the manipulative instructor of both Wolverine and Kitty Pryde—has his ominous red mask featured prominently. His reappearance seems plausible, particularly as Wolverine now mentors Leonard, a teenager grappling with the Wendigo’s curse. The storyline teases that Ogun may have his sights set on Wolverine’s new apprentice.

Among the figures glimpsed in the cover is Sabretooth, recently executed in late 2024, along with Romulus, the mastermind behind decades of Wolverine’s life and experiences, including his complicated ties to Weapon X. Given Romulus’s deep family connections, he could play a crucial role in the anticipated “family revelation”hinted at by Marvel. Any return by these villains would have a significant impact, but fans are particularly eager for a second chance at unveiling Romulus’s importance within Wolverine’s narrative.

While Sabretooth’s rapid return might seem far-fetched, it could be easily rationalized by the potent abilities of Adamantine, which appears to revive the essence of those with adamantium enhancements.

Fans eagerly await answers as Wolverine #8 arrives on comic store shelves, initiating an exciting new chapter for the indestructible hero of the X-Men.

Wolverine #8/#400 is scheduled for release on April 16, 2025, from Marvel Comics.
