Microsoft has been developing an enhanced version of its Windows Admin Center application, aimed at helping IT professionals and administrators manage Windows PCs and services more effectively. In July, they introduced a public preview of this upgraded app.
Today marks the launch of another public preview for the revamped Windows Admin Center, designated as version 2410, as noted in a recent blog update. Similar to the previous public preview, this version cannot be installed alongside the last stable release, version 2311, or any earlier iterations.
Microsoft advises against deploying the new 2410 public preview in production environments. Additionally, they have stated:
Users operating within a high availability (HA) framework should refrain from installing this preview version, as HA is not presently supported in our v2 backend setup or in the 2410 public preview release.
The version released in July introduced several new capabilities, including support for. NET Core 8, significant enhancements to the virtual machine tool, an updated installation process, a revamped data migration path, and some user interface adjustments within the settings.
In contrast, today’s release of Windows Admin Center version 2410 brings fewer changes compared to the July update. According to Microsoft’s blog, the most notable improvement focuses on the virtual machine tool:
Our main objective is to quickly provide you with a list of virtual machines so that you can perform your administrative duties efficiently. To facilitate this, we’ve introduced a toggle in the upper right corner of the Virtual machines tool that allows you to switch between a “detailed” view and a “light” mode.
Alongside these enhancements, several bugs have also been addressed in version 2410. It is expected that the new Windows Admin Center application will be generally available before the close of 2024.
