Enhancements in Windows 11 Preview Builds: A Closer Look at the New “About”Section
This week, Microsoft introduced exciting features in the latest Windows 11 preview builds, particularly within the Settings app. A key highlight is the revamped “About”section, which now provides users with detailed insights into their computer’s hardware. To facilitate a better understanding of how various components influence performance, Microsoft is developing an FAQ segment that addresses common user inquiries.
Previously, hints of this new section surfaced, but users can now access specific questions and answers directly by navigating to Settings > About
. Although Microsoft has yet to officially announce this enhancement, savvy users can enable it through some straightforward tweaks.

While seasoned PC users may find the information somewhat familiar, it serves as a valuable resource for newcomers to the Windows ecosystem. Currently, the FAQ section encompasses a variety of pertinent questions:
- Am I running the latest version of the Windows OS? What is the latest Windows version?
- How does having 4-8 GB of RAM impact my PC’s performance? Can I run modern applications smoothly with this RAM capacity?
- What is a GPU? I don’t have a dedicated GPU. How does its absence impact gaming and graphics performance?
- Is my GPU sufficient for high-end gaming and video experience? How can having a dedicated GPU enhance my experience and productivity?
It’s important to mention that the questions displayed can vary based on the user’s specific hardware configuration. For instance, individuals utilizing integrated graphics will see inquiries regarding the absence of a dedicated graphics card. Moreover, the question about RAM will adjust to reflect the actual memory present in a user’s PC. Notably, those with less than 4GB of RAM will also find tailored guidance, even though 4GB is considered the minimum requirement for Windows 11.
Microsoft’s responses generally convey accurate information regarding RAM and GPU capabilities. However, the inquiry about the latest version of Windows is somewhat misleading, as it fails to specify particular iterations like 24H2 or 23H2. While Windows 11 is the most current operating system, each release operates under a unique lifecycle, typically spanning 18 months for regular consumers. Including this information in the FAQ would enhance user clarity.
