New GIF Export Feature Enhances Windows 11 Snipping Tool
In an exciting update for users of Windows 11, Microsoft has officially announced the rollout of a highly anticipated feature for its Snipping Tool app. This new functionality enables users to save screen recordings as GIFs, making it easier to share visual content effortlessly. Currently, this feature is available to Windows 11 insiders in the Dev and Canary Channels.
How to Use GIF Export in Snipping Tool
Utilizing the GIF export option is a straightforward process. Begin by initiating a screen recording as you typically would. Once your recording is complete, simply click on the GIF button located in the upper-right corner of the editor. The app will prompt you to choose the quality settings for your GIF and provide details regarding the size, including duration, resolution, and frames per second (FPS).After these configurations, you can either select the Export option to save the file or use Copy to place it directly on your clipboard.

Limitations and Future Updates
It is important to note that the current GIF export feature is restricted to videos lasting no more than 30 seconds. For recordings that exceed this length, only the first 30 seconds will be converted and saved as a GIF.
Getting Started with the New Feature
The GIF export functionality is part of Snipping Tool version 11.2505.21.0. If you find that the feature is not available after updating and if your device is enrolled in the Canary or Dev Channel, you can activate it manually using the ViVeTool application. Here’s how:
- Download ViVeTool from GitHub and extract the files into a familiar directory.
- Open Command Prompt with Administrator privileges and navigate to the folder containing the ViVeTool files. For instance, if ViVeTool is stored in C:\Vive, enter CD C:\Vive.
- Input the command vivetool /enable /id:47081492 and hit Enter.
- Finally, restart your computer to apply the changes.
Additional Features in Snipping Tool
The Snipping Tool app has also recently integrated the “Perfect Screenshot”feature. This innovative addition enhances the user experience by allowing the app to intelligently focus on shapes and objects, such as tables and charts, when capturing screenshots.
