Improvements to the Windows 11 Battery Indicator
The battery indicator in Windows 11 has drawn criticism for its confusing presentation, especially when the device is charging. Many users find it challenging to read and inconsistent in displaying battery levels. Fortunately, Microsoft is addressing these issues with a significant update in the latest Dev Channel build, 26120.2510, which introduces a redesigned battery indicator that enhances clarity and usability.
Key Enhancements of the New Battery Indicator
One of the most noticeable changes is the increased size of the new battery indicator, allowing for a more precise representation of the current charge level. Additionally, the color scheme has been updated: the indicator will now display in green when the device is charging, and yellow when the energy saver mode is in use. In contrast, the previous version only provided a simplistic lightning bolt icon while charging and a leaf icon indicating energy-saving mode.
Current Availability
At this time, the revamped battery indicator is exclusively visible on the taskbar, with the lock screen still featuring the older design variant. However, it is anticipated that this part of the interface will also receive an update in the near future.
How to Enable the New Battery Indicator
If you’re eager to experience the new battery indicator, you can enable it by updating your Windows 11 system to build 26120.2510 from the Dev Channel. Follow these steps using the ViVeTool app:
- Download the ViVeTool app from GitHub and extract the files to an easily accessible folder.
- Open Command Prompt as an Administrator and navigate to the folder containing the ViVeTool files using the CD command. For example, if the files are in C:\Vive, you would enter CD C:\Vive.
- Execute the command vivetool /enable /id:48822452,48433719 and hit Enter.
- Finally, restart your computer to apply the changes.
Additional Features in Windows 11 Build 26120.2510
This update also introduces a range of AI-driven capabilities for users with compatible Copilot+ PCs. Now, those who own devices equipped with the latest Intel and AMD processors featuring neural processing units can experiment with new features like Recall, Click To Do, Paint Cocreator, and Image Restyle, which were previously exclusive to Snapdragon-based devices.
