Microsoft Releases Optional Windows 11 Preview Update for October 2023

On this day, Microsoft has unveiled its non-security optional preview update for Windows 11, designated as the C release for October 2023, specifically for version 23H2. Identified as KB5067112 (build 22621.6133), this update introduces noticeable modifications to the initial setup process, also referred to as the Out-of-Box Experience (OOBE).Among the enhancements, a new feature titled “Personalized Offers”has been added, aimed at presenting users with advertisements for other Microsoft products and services, which may not align with everyone’s preferences.

Overview of Key Improvements

This update is primarily focused on enhancing overall quality and addressing existing bugs. Below are the main highlights:

  • This optional update encompasses significant quality improvements.

Specific Enhancements in the Update

The following improvements have been made as part of the standard rollout:

  • [Input] Resolved an issue whereby the touch keyboard failed to input characters into text fields after the device awoke from sleep. While touch keyboard animations displayed correctly, key presses were unregistered—such as entering a password on the sign-in screen.
  • [Networking] Fixed a problem wherein external virtual switches would lose their physical Network Interface Card (NIC) bindings and revert to internal switches upon host restart, leading to network connectivity issues. This problem stemmed from the incorrect identification of orphaned virtual switch objects during Host Network Service startup.
  • [Shell] The update activates the Personalized Offers feature during the device setup phase in the OOBE, as well as in the Settings menu after users have accessed the desktop.

How to Download the Update

As this is an optional update, it will not be installed automatically on your system. To install this update, navigate to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update. In the “Optional updates available”section, you will find a link to download and install the update. Alternatively, you can manually obtain it from the Microsoft Update Catalog.
