Windows 11 KB5064080 Update Introduces Backup App for Organizations, Resolves File Explorer and SMB Share Issues

The August 2025 update for Windows 11, identified as KB5064080, is now available for devices running the 23H2 version. This optional update introduces the long-awaited OneDrive-based Windows Backup for Organizations, enhancing backup capabilities for businesses. Unlike the consumer edition, which has had access to the backup app for some time, organizations can now enjoy similar benefits. Users can download offline installer files for the KB5064080 update via the Update Catalog.

Microsoft announced that the Windows Backup for Organizations application is gradually being rolled out to all compatible users. Previously, organizations lacked access to a comprehensive online backup solution, but with this update, they can save user preferences, credentials, and personal files, all associated with their Microsoft Account.

This update simplifies the process of configuring a new PC to mirror the settings, applications, and desktop of the previous device using the Out-Of-Box Experience (OOBE) setup. However, the setup process may differ from consumer devices, as administrators will oversee how new PCs are configured and what data gets saved to the Microsoft account.

It’s important to note that the update does not yet include the Windows 7-style Restore feature, which remains absent from this release.

As KB5064080 is classified as an optional update, users will not receive it automatically. To access it, go to the Settings app and manually check for the update.

If you prefer, Microsoft provides direct access to the offline installer (.msu) files on its official Update Catalog site.
