Microsoft Releases C-Release Non-Security Preview Update for Windows 11

Today, alongside KB5060829 for Windows 11 24H2, Microsoft has announced the release of its C-release non-security preview update for Windows 11 versions 23H2 and 22H2. This update, identified as KB5060826 with builds 22621.5549 and 22631.5549, introduces significant enhancements aimed at improving user experience and system management.

Key Enhancements in KB5060826

The KB5060826 update introduces an improved setup process, allowing administrators to select whether to deploy critical updates during the initial Out-Of-Box Experience (OOBE).Additionally, this version enhances the PC migration experience via Windows Backup, and implements new app default settings to align with regulations in the European Economic Area (EEA).

Gradual Rollout Features

  • [App Defaults]
    • New! In the EEA region, minor adjustments to default browsers will be rolled out via the Set default button located in Settings > Apps > Default apps:
      • For browsers that register, additional file and link types will now be set to streamline the default browser experience.
      • The new default browser will auto-pin to both the Taskbar and Start Menu unless unselected.
      • Users will now find a convenient one-click option for changing the default.pdf file type if supported by the browser.
  • [PC Migration]
    • New! The rollout of the PC-to-PC migration feature is beginning. Users will soon notice the new landing and pairing pages within the Windows Backup app, which will facilitate file and settings transfer from an old PC to a new one during setup. Full support for this feature will be provided in subsequent updates. The phased rollout aims to ensure a smooth user experience throughout.
  • [Windows Share]
    • New! When utilizing the Windows share interface to distribute links or web content, users will now see a visual preview of the shared content.

    • New! Administrators can now determine if critical updates are to be installed during the out-of-box experience (OOBE) of new devices.
