Windows 11 KB5055653 Beta Update: HDR Enhancements, Windows Update Improvements, and Additional Features
Today, Microsoft has introduced the latest build of Windows 11 24H2 to its Beta channel for Insiders. This update, designated as build 26120.3950 (KB5055653), includes several enhancements such as improvements to HDR capabilities, a new energy saver feature accessible via Microsoft Intune, and various updates to the Windows Update service among others.
Key Features and Enhancements in the Latest Release
The following highlights summarize the significant changes being rolled out in this update:
New Features Being Introduced
Energy Saver Integration with Microsoft Intune
This build incorporates the ability to manage the energy saver functionality directly within Microsoft Intune. IT administrators can oversee these settings using group policies and Mobile Device Management (MDM) configurations.
The energy saver feature optimizes battery life by intelligently reducing power usage, including limiting background activity and lowering screen brightness. This efficient power management not only extends usage between charges but also enhances overall system performance while contributing to energy sustainability.
Administrators can enable this policy through the following methods:
Using the Local Group Policy Editor in Windows 11
Via the Microsoft Intune Admin Center

To configure this new policy, navigate to the Local Group Policy Editor: Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Power Management > Energy Saver Settings and select “Enable Energy Saver to Always Be On.”
Additional Changes and Improvements
[Recall (Preview)]
We are experimenting with various UI treatments for Recall, including adjustments to the locations of snapshot actions and the timeline.
[Taskbar & System Tray]
The visual indication for apps requiring attention on the taskbar has been made wider and more noticeable.
Wider needy state pill UI showing for Microsoft Teams on the taskbar indicating the app needs attention.
Admins can now enable users to unpin specific pinned apps, preventing them from being repinned during the next policy refresh cycle. To utilize this feature, refer to the new PinGeneration option. More information on configuring pinned apps on the taskbar can be found here.
[Graphics]
Enhancements in HDR management settings can now be accessed under Settings > System > Display > HDR:

The terminology for “Use HDR” has been improved for better clarity regarding supported media types.
Users can now enable HDR video streaming on PCs with HDR displays, even when HDR is disabled in settings.
For devices with Dolby Vision displays, an option to toggle Dolby Vision mode independently from HDR is now available, allowing users to customize their HDR experience.
Resolved an issue causing keyboard focus to default to widgets on login, which led to unexpected widget activation.
Fixed functionality for the shortcut WIN + CTRL + , which was previously ineffective for switching between windows of open apps.
[Audio]
Addressed an issue where the startup sound failed to play despite being enabled.
[Graphics]
Corrected a problem resulting in unexpected changes to scaling and window positions after sleep/resume for certain devices.
[Windows Update]
Fixed an error (0x800f081f) that occurred when attempting cumulative updates following a PC reset.
Known Issues
[General]
New Beta Channel users on Windows 11 version 24H2 will no longer initially receive Build 26120.3360 but will be directed to the most up-to-date version available.
Post-reset under Settings > System > Recovery, your build version may inaccurately display as Build 26100 instead of 26120. This issue will not impede access to future updates which will rectify the display error.
We are looking into reports of core Windows surfaces failing to load in Safe Mode (such as File Explorer and the Start menu) following the previous flight.
[Xbox Controllers]
A number of Insiders have reported issues with their Xbox Controller via Bluetooth resulting in system bugchecks. To resolve this, open Device Manager, select “View, ” and then “Devices by Driver.” Locate the driver labeled “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)” and uninstall it.
Additional Investigations:
[Live Captions]
[NEW] Investigation is ongoing for a crashing issue with live captions in this build.
[Recall (Preview)]
[REMINDER] You have the autonomy to disable Recall at any time via “Turn Windows features on or off.” Doing so will eliminate entry points and binaries, though temporary copies may be retained for serviceability.
[REMINDER] Ensure Microsoft 365 apps are updated to their latest versions to facilitate access to specific documents.
[Click to Do (Preview)]
[REMINDER] The local moderation of intelligent text actions has replaced cloud dependencies. This enhancement is reflected in the Click to Do feature within Recall.
[REMINDER] If actions related to image entities are absent, verify that the Photos and Paint apps are up to date in the Microsoft Store.
[Improved Windows Search]
[REMINDER] For the best search experience on Copilot+ PCs, ensure the device is plugged in during the initial search indexing process. Check your indexing status via Settings > Privacy & Security > Searching Windows.
[Start Menu]
We are investigating user reports about clicks on profile pictures failing to launch the Account Manager after the last update.
[Task Manager]
Following the addition of the new CPU Utility column, System Idle Process may inaccurately show as 0.
The CPU graphs within the Performance page continue to utilize previous CPU utility calculations.
