Windows 11 KB5055651 Dev Update: Dolby Vision and HDR Enhancements
Microsoft has recently introduced a new build for the Windows 11 24H2 Dev channel targeted at Insiders, designated as build 26200.5581 under the KB5055651 update. This update includes a range of enhancements such as improvements to HDR functionality, a new energy saver feature integrated into Intune, and various updates to the Windows Update service.
Changelog Overview
New Features Gradually Rolling Out to the Beta Channel*
Energy Saver Integration in Microsoft Intune
The energy saver feature is now accessible through Microsoft Intune, enabling IT administrators to manage energy saver settings on Windows 11 devices via group policies and Mobile Device Management (MDM) configurations. This functionality is designed to enhance battery life by regulating power use effectively, minimizing background tasks, and lowering screen brightness to optimize device performance.
By managing system processes efficiently, this energy-saving option helps lower energy consumption, leading to both cost savings and a positive impact on environmental sustainability.
IT administrators can enable this feature using one of the following methods:
Through the Local Group Policy Editor in Windows 11
Via the Microsoft Intune Admin Center

The new policy configuration can be accessed in the Local Group Policy Editor by navigating to Computer Configuration > Administrative Templates > System > Power Management > Energy Saver Settings, and selecting “Enable Energy Saver to Always Be On”.

[Recall (Preview)]
We’re experimenting with various user interface adjustments in Recall, including different placements for snapshot actions and the timeline.
[Taskbar & System Tray]
The “needy state pill”under taskbar apps has been enlarged for greater visibility, making it easier to identify applications requiring attention.

Administrators now have the option to allow users to unpin specific pinned apps, ensuring they are not pinned again during the next policy refresh cycle. For instructions, check the new PinGeneration option and learn more about configuring pinned apps on the taskbar.

New enhancements are being introduced for managing HDR settings on your PC via Settings > System > Display > HDR:

The wording for “Use HDR” has been clarified to specify supported media types.
On HDR-capable displays, users can now stream HDR videos even with HDR turned off in settings.
For devices supporting Dolby Vision, a toggle for Dolby Vision mode has been added, allowing independent control over HDR and Dolby Vision settings.
Resolved an issue where keyboard focus was inadvertently set to widgets on the taskbar upon login, which led to unexpected widget activation.
Fixed a problem where the WIN + CTRL + key combination failed to cycle through windows of open apps in their designated taskbar position.
[Audio]
Addressed an issue which occasionally prevented the startup sound from playing, despite being enabled.
[Graphics]
Fixed an anomaly that caused unexpected scaling and window position fluctuations after waking from sleep mode on certain devices.
[Windows Update]
Resolved an issue that caused cumulative updates to fail with error 0x800f081f following a PC reset.
Known Issues
[General]
Upon joining the Dev Channel for Windows 11 version 24H2, users will directly receive the latest available update (Build 26200.5581) with no prior offer for Build 26200.5518.
After a PC reset in Settings > System > Recovery, the build version may incorrectly display as Build 26100 instead of 26200, though this will not hinder future Beta Channel updates to rectify the issue.
Currently under investigation is an issue preventing core Windows surfaces, such as File Explorer and the Start menu, from loading in safe mode following the last flight.
[Xbox Controllers]
Some Insiders have reported that using an Xbox Controller via Bluetooth is causing system bugchecks. To resolve this, open Device Manager, choose “View” and then “Devices by Driver.” Locate the driver “oemXXX.inf (XboxGameControllerDriver.inf)” and right-click to uninstall it.
[Live Captions]
[NEW] We are currently investigating an issue that causes live captions to crash in this build.
[Recall (Preview)]
[REMINDER] You have control over the Recall feature and can remove it anytime through “Turn Windows features on or off.” Uninstalling Recall will delete entry points and binary files, although temporary copies may remain for serviceability until purged.
[REMINDER] Ensure your Microsoft 365 apps are updated to the latest version for easy access to specific documents.
[Click to Do (Preview)]
[REMINDER] Intelligent text actions are now moderated locally for safety and have replaced cloud-based interactions. These features are now also integrated within Click to Do in Recall.
[REMINDER] If certain actions related to image entities are not showing, ensure you have the latest updates for the Photos and Paint applications from the Microsoft Store.
[Improved Windows Search]
[REMINDER] For best results on improved Windows Search functionality on Copilot+ PCs, it is advisable to keep your device plugged in during the initial search indexing. You can check your indexing status via Settings > Privacy & Security > Searching Windows.
[Start Menu]
Reports indicate that some Insiders are unable to open the Account Manager by clicking on their profile picture after the last update.
[Task Manager]
Users may notice that the System Idle Process shows as 0 after adding the new CPU Utility column.
CPU graphs on the Performance page still reflect previous CPU utility calculations.
